Undoubtedly the Plaza Duce is a great hotel with polite and friendly staff. The rooms are nice, we had a deluxe room on the 10th floor - great views from its balcony, nice tech in the room, good bathroom, kept spotlessly clean by the amazing cleaners. The outdoor pool area is not the biggest, but it’s fine and the further seating area over looking the sea is very comfortable and well served by the pool bar and it’s attentive staff. The quality of food in the buffet restaurant is good and imaginative most of the time and labelling is good for those with allergies. So - why is this review 3 stars and not 5? Well, that is explained by a note left in everyone’s room on Friday afternoon detailing that a wedding was due to be held at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday (26th and 27th October). The note mentioned that guests would have to use the pool bar restaurant for evening meal for 2 days and also have restricted access to the pool bar itself on Sunday afternoon. The experience of the hotel focussing on the large wedding and not it’s guests, along with large noisy groups of wedding guests effectively taking over parts of the hotel - including the sun deck was not the relaxing stay we were promised. Also, unsupervised groups of children using the lifts as a game was not good. We chose this hotel for several reasons - mainly as it was listed as being a great place for a peaceful break. Also, because I had spoken and messaged the hotel in advance to ensure they would look after my wife who has Coeliacs and needs gluten free food - which I was assured was not an issue. However, on Sunday morning, I was informed that the hotel had run out of gluten free bread - with the excuse given that ‘It was Sunday’!!!! Fortunately, after I was clear that this needed to be rectified, normal service was restored on Monday. In summary, this is a great hotel - but one that we would not have visited if it was made clear in advance that its primary focus during 2 days of our stay was a large wedding. I’m sure the wedding guests enjoyed themselves - but as this was at the expense of the hotel’s other guests, then this was not ok. We likely won’t revisit the Plaza Duce as we were left wondering where their priorities were and why they thought it was ok not to warn guests in advance of such a disruption to their holiday. We actually ate out on one day and used room service on the other day at our expense and then went out during the days as well to avoid the disruption. Hence - a generous score of 3
