Hotel D-Elegant

This is a really nice budget hotel, located in Lapad, away from the hustle & bustle of the old town, and close to the beach. We had a large room with an extremely comfortable bed/pillows, and a terrace/balcony. I thought it was a great idea to have clothes drying racks on the balconies, perfect for your beach towels & swimsuits. We had the breakfast, and it was pretty much the same every day. But even for us vegans, we could get something nice to eat. And for people with no dietary restrictions, there is even more choice. Our shower was faulty, which we reported to staff on our first morning. As it was the weekend, they advised that it probably wouldn't be fixed immediately, but by Tuesday we had a brand new shower head (the shower was usable, just faulty - we didn't have to exist without a shower!) The staff were lovely, friendly, helpful, and gave good tips about the beaches and surrounding area. There is a bus stop directly across the street from the hotel, where you can catch Bus 6 to the old town. The buses are small and very busy (September) and the cost is 2.50 euro one way. We did also buy tickets in advance from the kiosk in the town, where they are a little cheaper (1.70). And I must admit, we walked to the old town on several occasions. 30 minute walk, but with beautiful views. The beaches close by are lovely. There is a great walking path along the coast, and at some spots you can walk down stone steps to small seating areas, where you can also jump into the ocean and swim. We did this instead of going to the pebble beaches and hiring sun loungers. Overall, this was a really nice hotel, perfect for what we wanted. It is not high end, glam or luxurious, but it is comfortable, clean and friendly.

Let me start by saying that Lapad is a great area. It offers a chilled-out alternative to Dubrovnik's bustling Old Town while still being a quick bus ride away from its attractions. There are some truly lovely beaches, walking paths and hotels there...the thing is, Hotel D'Elegant is not one of them. We were welcomed by a friendly and helpful member of staff, who set the scene for what we thought would be a pleasant stay (very nice lady with long hair). Unfortunately, we didn't see her again until we checked out. There were some upsides upsides: the spacious room, very close to the bus stop to the Old Town. The downsides however were plentiful. The grumpy, surly staff at reception made me feel embarrassed about asking for help (the guy actually rolled his eyes when I requested the temperature in our room be adjusted because you can't actually change it from your room). The towels were scratchy and threadbare. Our shower leaked in two places, was tepid and lacked pressure. There was a water stain overhead and the hose was coated in mould, which came off on you in stringy chunks as you used it. Our TV was remotely logged into by someone else and started loudly playing at night. I slept very poorly throughout due to the singular, hard memory foam pillow provided but felt like I couldn't ask for an alternative due to the intimidating staff at reception. The third floor had an exit that guests could access at anytime to get in and out to the street quickly, but so could anyone else! If you stay here, I strongly recommend you use the safe or take any valuables with you. Last but not least, the breakfast was very poor and the coffee machine was broken. We gave up on it after day two. I don't enjoy leaving a review like this but I am genuinely perplexed as to how this hotel achieves it's four star status and would not return.

Basic hotel, rooms ok. Breakfast was disappointing. Small selection, hot food was cold, coffee machine broken, overall impression untidy. Hotel location is good, easy to get around by bus or walking. Large free parking lot, close to the beach.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The restaurant offered delicious food with a great variety, and the service was excellent. The location is perfect – close to everything we needed yet peaceful and relaxing. Truly a fantastic holiday experience!
