Beware room 16. Window handles not working, tape holding work table together and bath plug broken not letting bath fill. We reported bath problem to cleaners who were unable to replace the fitting. When I removed it from the bath, the part was filthy and covered in hairs. The issue was referred to the Manager who advised it was a maintenance issue and now reported. Offered bath facilities in a room at other end of corridor - declined and made do with lukewarm showers. Went to bar for fresh coffee and unavailable as machine not working. Ended up in local garage for 2 coffees. Stayed here before when visiting family and while tired we always thought it was clean and sufficient. Serious doubts now.

Had a mixed grill with dodgy mushrooms took it back and asked to speak to chef.bar staff took it but didn't update me so again went to bar and forced her to speak to chef. She came back and said the chef said suppliers fault had to throw a batch of mushrooms away. I asked why serve me them in that case. I then asked to speak to the manager they found a young lady who was shocked to be call the manager. She came back after visiting the chef who said nothing wrong with the meal. I said which version is the truth so they then offered me free deserts and a round of drinks. I enquired why offer this if there is nothing wrong with the meal. No response so I contacted marstons head office made a complaint and was told it would be investigated. I rang back 2 days later on Friday and was told it would be Monday. Rang again Monday no one available to answer call so message left.Tuesday no response so left another message. It appears complaints by members of the public are ignored. BOYCOTT ALL MARSTONS PUBS FOR MEALS YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR EATING AND APPEARS TO BE REHEATED PACKAGE MEALS.

I work in the area once a week or so, and I need places stay close to where my particular day starts. I opt for local pubs where I can, because of the variety and supporting the local economy. On arrival at The Crown it was an efficient check in at the pub’s Reception area in the bar. Took only a few minutes. It appears there’s a number of rooms here as I noted a few were checking in or who were resident. Typical set-up really, and the majority of rooms are on the first floor I believe, accessible by some stairs. There’s not any lifts here for the less ambulant, but with my ankle injury I happily got up to my room quite easily. I believe there is a bedroom on the ground floor. My room (14) was simple in decor, very clean there’s a really nice large double bed and plenty of space and nice and clean. There’s hanging space and additional storage, a nice sized desk with TV and complimentary teas and coffee too. Extra pillows provided if needed. Plenty of power sockets and some with USB charging. Variable lighting is available around the room so you can go from really bright, down to low bedside-reading lamp. The bathroom is good size too with a normal sized bath, and a shower combined. Adequate towels are provided here and again the bathroom was really quite clean and sparkly. Overall, the bedroom accommodation was spot-on really. My room had the kitchen extract duct immediately outside the window, but there wasn’t any discernible noise from this whilst I stayed - there’s net curtains too so it’s not obvious, plus you’ve heavy curtains as well. No great view I know, but I’m here to recharge - and rest. Duvet was good and heavy (10.5 tog) but a bit warm for me. Previous hotels in the West Midlands offer this too? Am I missing cold weather? There is a hotel world-breaking “record” of 13 socket outlets in the room, 4 of which are also USB sockets too! Nice bar area downstairs with large tables and smaller 2 person tables. Also a beer garden appeared to be out there somewhere too but I did not venture out there. Some deep buttoned wing back chairs to recline into, and it was all very comfy. A locals pub as well by the look of it, so there’s quite a nice buzz to the place. Monday evening appeared a quiet night, but there were quite a few diners in, and some drinkers were in as well. A pool table is down at one end and so various customers were enjoying that. I liked the menu - again not vast but there’s a good variety. The doner kebab was very tempting but I went in the end for Prawn Cocktail to start and then Sirloin steak and chips. The Prawn Cocktail was certainly not disappointing - large tall glass which was packed with loads of jumbo prawns, loads of Marie Sauce and just the right amount of shredded lettuce, 1/4 lemon and brown bread. Twas proper! The rare 8 ounce sirloin was 10/10 in terms being perfectly rare and cooked on a griddle with “bits” too! Rested nicely before serving as well. Chips, peas, mushrooms and oni

The staff at The Crown are so friendly & helpful, making our stay a very pleasant one. The bed was very comfy and we utilised the fan a it was during the heatwave and exceptionally hot inside & outside. The steak light dinner was delicious and breakfast in the morning equally so. If you enjoy pub rooms then you will enjoy the crown.

Good location, comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom. I didn't eat there, but the bar/restaurant looked good. The letdown was that while the bedroom had 2 Velux style windows for light, and was bright and airy, it didn't have any form of window covering or shades in place to keep the light out overnight and into the dawn - very odd, and something of a problem when the sun rose the next morning.

A warm welcome and very helpful staff after a long journey. The room was clean and had all the basics for a one night stay but was very stuffy with no windows in the room. It did have high ceiling windows which we couldn't open and these could have done with a blind over them as daylight arrives early in June! We had a good evening meal and a freshly cooked breakfast where you could order almost anything you fancied. All in all a pleasant stay.

Lovely pub and staff. Stayed in family room and terrible damp smell in corridor. The room itself was very tatty with peeled paint in and wet stains on walls. Bathroom was very tatty Bedding seemed clean but very glad didn’t have to use the bed settee as looked very grubby and had seen better days. Room was in dire need of some TLC.

Staff were friendly and efficient but the food was not that good. My friend had the fish and chips from the lunch menu which was a good size portion and she thoroughly enjoyed it, however I had the cowboy burger minus the bun. The burgers were over-cooked and small. The burgers were about 3" in diameter and the whole stack 2 burgers, cheese and a tiny bit of bacon was only just over 1" high. They had also forgotten to put the lettuce on, when I mentioned to the helpful member of staff he apologised and returned with a bowl of lettuce most of which was okay but quite a lot had brown edges and was not crisp. There was also a rediculous amount of fries. I doubt that I will return or recommend The Crown.
