One of the worst stays I’ve ever had at a hotel and it’s not over!! Booked the most expensive room, but the tv didn’t work.and the exciting bath tub tv didn’t work either. 😭 There is a crazy loud function downstairs (apparently people were warned…I wasn’t, but to be fair I really wouldn’t care if the room was actually ok). But mainly my issue is the heat…omg the heat!!! No fan, the windows don’t open much and the staff closed reception before 9:30 so there’s no chance of any requests for help. There’s no lift either…I don’t care but others may. The late 4pm check in was annoying too as I wanted to arrive earlier. Honestly…if I hadn’t have had a drink I’d drive home. £150 wasted, don’t pay it!!! That said I really want give praise to the lovely girl on the bar when I arrived. Very helpful, chatty and deserves recognition. But otherwise be aware not to book a hotel with no reception staff, and beware if it’s hot weather or if theres a function on!

We arrived Friday afternoon June 20 for 3 nights. Check in was easy we were given keys to Room 5. Room 5 is near the top of the building. We are both in our 70’s and walking up 45 steps to the room didn’t help. When we arrived in the room it was stifling hot. The window opened about 10 cm. There was a small fan which did nothing to help the heat. We asked for another fan. None available. We asked for another room none available. We had to sleep with curtains open to try and get a draught with the fan. So daylight poured into the room very early. We couldn’t sleep. Second night was the same. We checked out the following morning forgoing the third night as the room was so unbearably hot all day and night. We were then told we could move rooms but after our experience we didn’t want to. Also the TV didn’t work and was not fixed. Staff are friendly enough and breakfast is nice. I cannot believe that the hotel were not aware of how hot his room was ( as it faced the sun all day) the cleaners must have realised. Avoid Room 5 in hot weather.

They put us on room 12 , and soon as we got in the room, it smelt musty, not fresh. The floor wasn't clean, i removed my shoes and whilst walking it felt like sand with some white bits on the floor. On the shelf next to windows, there were lots of dust marks from stained glass plus someone's hair. Then we made a complaint that we were not happy with the room. So they swapped the room for us to number 13 it was slightly better, but still not clean. We found a pile of dust on the floor. The quilt smelt musty. The manager called us but got the impression that we were after some type of compensation, which is definitely not the case, we just wanted to point out what we found and experienced in the 2 rooms.

The location of the hotel was very central and excellent value for money. We were offered an upgrade when we checked in. The decor of the rooms is modern, they are very comfortable and equipped with all the amenities we needed. Good choice of breakfast dishes. We decided to stay for food in the evening in the hotel and the menu was brilliant, offering a whole range of dishes and very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and approachable. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A hotel with no hotel staff - felt a bit strange. Everything is done through the restaurant, so if the restaurant is closed you’re on your own. It all worked fine for me (check in at the bar, given key, told how to get to the room) but I’m not sure what would happen if you got delayed on your journey and arrived after the restaurant had closed. You are sent a detailed email with all this a couple of days before, but it does seem to be putting more work onto the guest than is usual. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was great (must pre-order the night before, including time, which some might find a little restricting) and there were no problems during my stay. My room was at the top of the building after four long flights of steep stairs, and I only noticed there was a lift on the last day. A huge fan was provided in the room, which was very welcome (very hot, close nights) but the window only opened a few inches, so the room remained stuffy and hot. Overall, a pleasant stay. The bed was comfy, the room clean and modern, Wi-Fi good and nothing to complain about. And yet the experience felt remote - it had a do-it-yourself feeling, rather than the welcoming feel of a normal hotel. Certainly no reason not to stay there, but I think I will look elsewhere next time. If I’m paying £100 a night, I’d like to think the place was staffed 24/7, not just during restaurant opening hours - and closed all day Sunday. Premier Inn/Travelodge offer a better welcome, make you feel more ‘looked-after’ and are significantly cheaper. Sorry to sound negative, but that was how it made me feel.

Boy oh boy the steps to room 8. Never ever again. Really struggled with the last batch. Room was modern and clean but far too hot. Pigeons on the attic roof windows had to balance how it was open. Bedroom door rattled all night for some reason. Breakfast average. Friendly nice staff.

Flat breads, delicious choice for both of us, veggie and meat. Bootle of red £51 excellent value good service thank you. Quiet Saturday afternoon out but good value and will continue to come back. Easily the best place to eat in town and certainly far superior to other hotels
