A fuir.

We moored up on the river and had a walk into Dorchester, people really friendly but what is going on with somewhere to eat? There was a sign outside this place saying new management, new chef so we walked in and sat in the beer garden. The warning signs were there as it resembled a 1970’s look. When you walk inside the decor is bizarre and not in keeping with the beautiful surroundings. We asked for a menu “we’ve just taken over and not doing food as we have no chef”. Just getting a drink was a chore!

Dreadful, had booked a room for the night in October (walking the Thames path) and confirmed the booking a couple of weeks ago. When I arrived tired, hungry and foot sore, I was casually told that my room was not available - no explanation, no apology and I'm unable to get a room anywhere else. They tried to blame *********** but caught themselves out by admitting that they themselves cancelled it this morning - no contact, no nothing. Took a taxi to the nearest friend's house and crashed for the night. If you want reliable this place ain't it. Horrible people to deal with too. You have been warned.

We stayed at FDL overnight it's a wonderful location in beautiful Dorchester. The room was comfy but the lock on the door was broken. Breakfast was very disappointing. Dirty glasses on the bar counter when we got down. As soon as we were seated large plates of full English arrived even though we hadn't ordered them. Waiter seemed very put out that we wanted to choose our own breakfast options (some in our party were veggie). Breakfast tasted very mediocre - if you are only doing one thing then do it well.

Visited FDL with my husband on a summers afternoon. Poor service, very slow at the bar. Food sounded great when reading the menu however each item (starter and a main for both myself and my husband) was incredibly salty. We left the majority of our meal. Pork scratchings seem less salty. I would return for a drink, the garden is lovely. I will not return for food, I’d rather eat my pork scratchings.

Reasonable quality old room in Abbey View and an old style freestanding claw foot bath with ample of hot water. The challenge was getting in and out of the room as the lock on the room door was faulty and needs attention. At one point we were locked in the room till I gave it a shove. No chef yesterday when we stayed so we dinned at the White Hart hotel and restaurant down the road which was nice. The room had a nice view but if you are a light sleeper there’s no need for an alarm clock, as the church clock chimes on the qtr hour all night. Nice bar area serving good Cotswold beers etc. Breakfast spoilt the stay as it appeared to be a challenge to eat at 7.30am. On arrival just after 7.30am there was a chilled coffee on the table already, even though we had not ordered at that point and needed a tea. Then all of a sudden without any discussion of our requirements, an English breakfast appeared with toast. Good in once sense if it was fresh but they looked as though it had been pre cocked and had been left under a warming grill. Never had baked beans with a skin on top - a grilled dried fried egg and supper crunchy dried bacon. Maybe skip breakfast.

I cannot rate more highly the lovely lovely meal my Mother and I shared on the 12th February at the FDL. Lovely warm venue, lovely warm welcome and absolutely fantastic meal, superb value for money with nothing at all to criticize. Thank you for all your care and attention.

Fantastic meal last night. Cracking menu and could have happily worked my way through every dish - portions good and might have taken some time. Lovely environment, cosy quirky, smart. More like a nice little French restaurant than an English pub.
