Claughton House

The highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka! This villa is the most beautifully appointed property we've ever stayed at. The location can't be beat— tucked away, overlooking the ocean, with direct oceanfront access on a super quiet stretch of beach. The property is meticulously landscaped and maintained, with a stunning pool and multiple seating locations throughout. Every view is insanely beautiful. Each of the three main rooms have their own bathroom; ours had both an indoor and outdoor shower. The air conditioners are cold and a welcome respite from the Sri Lankan humidity. The staff members are what set Claughton House apart. We were so well attended to that we never wanted to leave. Our driver met us at the airport and patiently drove us around what felt like the entirety of Sri Lanka, and gave us amazing recommendations for things to do; the day he took us to a tea plantation was a highlight. The chef was such a sweetheart and prepared us the most delicious, healthy, fresh meals. We were even able to spend some time in the kitchen with him learning how he prepares different curry variations. The main overseer of the house was always there for us, even if we just needed a glass of water. When we asked him about local food and beverage, he showed up the next day with a local spirit and made us cocktails far better than any we've ever had. All of the staff members spoke English and were a joy to converse with. They shared so many stories of their country and upbringing, making us feel like we were staying with friends. Even with so many staff members, we always felt like we had total privacy. Make sure to take advantage of the offerings the house is able to coordinate: we enjoyed a yoga class, cooking with the chef, fire dancers, Ayurvedic massages, and even a blessing by monks. All in all, this was the experience of a lifetime. We hope to return one day.

There are no words to describe how much we loved our stay at Claughton House. Everything was perfect and we can fault absolutely nothing. The villa was fantastic, the staff were so kind and helpful, and the location and views unforgettable. Happily would stay here forever!!! Thank you to all at Claughton House for having our family.
