The Daytona, Autograph Collection

Guests appreciate the friendly staff, spacious rooms, and convenient location near the Daytona International Speedway. They also enjoy the cleanliness, breakfast quality, and amenities like a pool and jacuzzi.

It took me a while to write this review because I offered the hotel an opportunity to fix the issue. I stayed the week of July 4th and I was actually home for a funeral because I grew up in Daytona. I could have chose to stay at my mother's house but I decided on staying at a hotel. The experience I had was with the house keeping manager and front desk clerk "Malcolm". I had returned to my room around 3:00 from preparing food for people coming to pay their respect before the funeral. My room had not been cleaned so I asked the house keeping manager when would my room be cleaned. After a brief exchange he called me "Selfish" because I was not considering the other guest. I went down to the front office to report the incident and I let them know I was going to take a shower and leave so my room can be cleaned. After taking a shower I went to the front desk and told them I was leaving. The front desk stated for the safety of everyone involved I must be in my room for them to clean it. I was a little thrown off because I had not threatened anyone so whose safety was they concerned with? I went on further to say if they were worried about safety why would they want me to be in the room. This was an attempt to label me as the dangerous black man. The front desk claimed that was Marriott's policy, which is not true according to corporate. I told the front desk that I had to leave and they stated whatever time I come back someone would clean my room. Upon returning to my room at 10:00 pm a note was placed on my door saying they did not clean my room because I had requested that. I write this review because I am a disabled veteran who has fought in two wars. I am a retired high school assistant principal. I am from Daytona and I know how people can treat African Americans. Yes, Malcolm is an African American as well but that does not mean anything. I sent an email to the general manager and assistant manager of the hotel with no response. I reported it to the Better Business Bureau and the hotel has not responded. I will just say this to all veterans, educators, and African Americans be careful where you spend your money. All I asked for was for my room to be cleaned in a timely manner. Dr. Rodney Williams

If you stay here you must visit the bar area and have Fabian as your bar tender. Best bartender ever! The customer service was incredible as were the drinks! He was incredibly attentive, efficient, and humorous. We came with a larger group and everyone enjoyed their drinks as well as his service.
