Hotel Frangos

We are long time user of Luxury Escapes, I think we have purchased at least 10 holidays with them all wonderful which have lived up to what we thought was their high standards and quality, as per the name....... NOT this place, definitely NOT Hotel Frangos, Daylesford, Victoria. We were beyond disappointed with our stay at Hotel Frangos booked through Luxury Escapes, to start, on arrival we checked in at Reception, a dark dingy messy pocket in a wall with a young girl who could not have been more bored, less friendly, and more uninterested in us if she tried. We then with even less friendliness were led down another dingy, shabby (that's putting it lightly) stairs outside to a separate now unused spa complex into a dark, cold (freezing), messy, full of dark cold corridors with broken unused spa or hotel detritus, up hard rickety metal stairs that looked out on another overgrown, messy yard with a shed, packed again with hotel/restaurant throw-outs... if you were frail with a lot of luggage, these stairs would be a real challenge, the young girl couldn't have cared less to ask if we needed help. We arrive at the room I chose (Bianca room 15) I didn't know whereabouts in the hotel it was situated when I booked, there are 4 rooms up in this unused spa complex. Mmmm..., first impressions the room looked OK, same as in the photos, however that quickly changed, went into the bathroom, the shower tiles were cracked, mouldy, orange skin and soap scum in the wall grout, yuk!! bathroom amenities were cheap, nasty and minimal, not replaced the next day when the room was made up. There were plastic wine glasses and tumblers for our use, we felt the tumblers were not washed and replaced with fresh ones, I suspect that they are given no more than a rinse and a wipe with one of the hand towels when the room is cleaned for the next occupant, they were scratched, cheap & nasty. The TV was small, difficult to actually watch from the bed, no instructions on the worn TV control, which was complicated and not easy to work out. The room was full of dust behind anything and everything that was there, tables, bed, chairs etc. When we 'Checked out' I wanted to speak to the manager or anyone really, there was no one there we could speak to, we went back and forth for an hour waiting for anyone, ended up just leaving our key cards and left. The meals were lovely at Koukala, no complaint there, food and staff were great. HOWEVER!!!! go into their restrooms, which would be one of the worst bathrooms I have ever been in, I was appalled, especially when I used the toilet and had to work out how to find the space to close the door, then open it again, they were ridiculously tiny. All in all, what a waste of our money, we were beyond disappointed.... DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL..photos back up my review.

The bed was amazing like sleeping on clouds. Room was mostly quiet except for the sound of guests exiting and slamming doors. Will visit again.

Lighting in room very poor.
