I need to visit nearby for 3 days, and there are no other hotels nearby, so I just stayed here. The hotel has a parking lot for parking. It is more convenient to drive by yourself on the side of the road.

Friendly service and a good breakfast, but the en suite bathroom was not good. Mildew on the ceiling and around the window and in the shower. Skirting board in shower damaged (by water). Stairs and corridor to room also in need of redecorating. Can't fault the welcome or service though, which was professional, welcoming and friendly.

Overnight stop on our way north. Great location just off the A1. We really enjoyed our stay here, such a friendly place with the loveliest staff. The receptionist was funny and welcoming, the bar staff were great and the wonderful lady taking the breakfast order was a delight. The manager (Chris I think) was fabulous, so friendly and attentive. By chance, we were staying on the evening of their quiz (Tuesday). It's all done by mobile, meaning that we could eat dinner while doing the quiz and hosted by Chris. It was great fun, and it was obvious that there are a really nice bunch of locals who come for the quiz ( but the Tartan Travellers still managed a pretty decent third place!). The food was lovely, my wife and I both had the sea bass which was delicious, and the breakfast was really good. The bar and restaurant areas are really nice, with the only small gripe being the bedroom. It was definitely in need of a bit of an upgrade, and has a hole in the floor which my wife ( who has mobility issues) tripped on several times. We had to put toilet roll on the floor over the hole so that she could avoid it. This did not spoil our stay, the bed was comfortable, there are tea and coffee making facilities and as previously stated the bar and restaurant are great. A bit of tlc in the rooms would really lift the place. Overall a pleasant stay and the hotel should be proud of their staff if not the quality of the room!.

Lovely welcome. Exceptionally clean room and both supper and breakfast meals were good. It's a young team here but the service was good. They are working hard and prioritising customer satisfaction despite the tiredness of some areas of this Hotel. Thanks guys.

Great place to stay. Stopped for 1 night. Clean and comfortable room. Staff helpful and polite. Great meal in the evening and Molly made our breakfast as chef went off ill. Molly done a good job. Lady on reception was very welcoming. Would definitely stay again and wish it was closer to our house.

Arriving to a freezing cold room (pre booked incidentally) after a very long drive was really unpleasant. The heater itself was incomprehensible and I needed help from Reception. A bedside lamp was missing and had to be requested. All the staff members were friendly and helpful; it’s management cutbacks that made this stay so poor. The food - both in the evening and at breakfast - was not good. Microwaved, dubious meals with processed cheese, UHT milk in the morning, no tomatoes for the salad (half a plateful of lettuce doesn’t really cut it), and the water in urns for tea was lukewarm - I asked for real milk and went upstairs to make HOT tea in my room! I am not even a particularly picky traveller, but would avoid staying here again.

I wish I could review the hotel and restaurant separately because I'd give 4/5 for the hotel and 0/5 for the restaurant. The one positive shared by both was very friendly and helpful staff. They can't be faulted. The hotel room was good and much like as in the photos. The quality of the room wasn't quite as expected, e.g. cheaply decorated and the window surrounds were pretty dirty, but it was fine and made a reasonable alternative to a Premier Inn. Unfortunately the food in the restaurant was dire. Alarm bells rang when I saw the menu - that many dishes and meat at that price doesn't bode well. I played safe and had a veggie lassagne but it had a nasty, "dark" background taste. The accompanying salad was fine but needed a dressing or just some oil because it was bone dry. 2/5 for dinner. The breakfast selection was limited and a cooked breakfast is clearly the thing here. After cereals I had scrambled eggs on toast. After a very long wait (which was odd because the only other customer received their breakfast long before us), I was given the worst scrambled eggs I've ever seen. The white & yolk weren't properly mixed so there were yellow and white swirls, and the eggs were horrendously overcooked. They were solid. To compund things, the toast under the scrambled eggs wasn't buttered. I'm not a fussy eater but a slab of hard eggs on dry toast is impossible to enjoy. How can anyone get scrambled eggs on toast so wrong? 0/5 for breakfast. Sadly, it will be the PremierInn for me next time because the restaurant was dire and the hotel would have to be amazing to compensate for having to drive somewhere else to eat.
