The Darby

If I could rate this place below zero stars, I would. This so-called "boutique hotel" is a disgrace — a health hazard masquerading as hospitality. A friend and I booked two rooms for the July 4th weekend, expecting at a well-appointed hotel, given the website and Instagram. What we got instead was a revolting, neglected motel that should honestly be shut down by the health department. Let’s break it down: First impressions? Vile. When we arrived around 4 PM, the parking lot looked like a landfill. Trash was scattered everywhere, clearly torn out of the dumpster by animals — and no one had even attempted to clean it up. This wasn’t just unpleasant; it was filthy. Not what you expect when you're paying to stay somewhere, even at $20 a night. Frankly, I’ve seen cleaner gas station rest stops. Security? Nonexistent. The front desk was completely unmanned until 9:30 the next morning. Our room keys were just left out in the open, with our names on them. Anyone walking in could have grabbed them. Zero regard for guest privacy or safety — a complete breach of even the most basic standards. The rooms? Disgusting. Mold was growing in the kitchen. The walls were stained with who-knows-what, the bathroom floor was coated in someone else’s hair, and the lighting was broken. Every inch of the place reeked of negligence. How this place is even operating is beyond me. Between the mold and the filth, it’s hard to believe this hotel hasn’t been cited for health violations. False advertising. No breakfast. No coffee. No tea. Nothing but lies and grime. Customer service? A joke. We had a family emergency and had to leave early. I called to explain the situation and was met with total indifference. The person on the phone might as well have hung up mid-sentence — that’s how little they cared. No refund. No understanding. Just apathy. Follow-up? Nonexistent. I emailed after our stay to share how awful the experience was. No reply. No apology. Not even a generic acknowledgment. Just silence — which tells you everything you need to know about how this business is run. Bottom line: this is not a hotel — it’s a neglected, unsafe, unsanitary mess with no staff, no service, and no standards. Avoid it at all costs.

This is definitely a spot to book for couples looking to getaway for a weekend. Situated on the PA side of the Delaware River gap and a few minute walk over the bridge to get into Narrowsburg main st with small town charm, local farm-to-table eateries and vintage shops. Excellent location. Everyone is friendly at the hotel also. However, walls are thin and the hotel does have a bar that stay open until 11pm with certain weekend gatherings that run into the late hours. This space is pet friendly and its linens and bed sheets are higher end quality than most places I’ve stayed at similar price point. They’ve just updated the past year and the furnitures are all very good quality. Lots of lounging space and given this was a former nursing home, the rooms have wide doors and showers are wider. Each room has heat and ac from the window equipped ac. They do not have TV’s in the rooms but there is a TV in the pool table lounge where coffee and tea and fruits are also served from 8-10am. Check in time is limited but the staff is very accommodating. The location is low key and if there are any concerns just give the phone number a call at the front desk if no one is there. It was great for a 2 hour drive to get away for memorial weekend.

As a previous reviewer mentioned, The Darby is most definitely a hidden gem! From my very first step inside, I immediately forgot the stresses of the winter weather I was escaping from. The staff I interacted with were friendly, welcoming, & hospitable. I felt as if I was a valued guest from check-in to check-out. The decor is modern, & the cleanliness of the establishment was impressive. The bed was super comfortable, & the bathroom floor was decorated in eye-catching patterns. The leather strap that bolts the headboard to the wall was an amazingly cool touch! I am a bit of a picky eater, but I ordered The Darby (two smash burgers on a pretzel bun with bacon jam, tomato, pickles & truffle chips... Modified to exclude the cheese), & it was, honestly, the best burger(s) I've ever had! The bacon jam & truffle chips elevated it to another level, & my ice water with a slice of fresh lemon was the perfect way to finish it off. I would recommend The Darby experience to anyone, & I plan on visiting again in Spring!

Small clean hotel, nothing to go out of your way for

The staff is very friendly and took care of things we requested with a smile. The facility is old, but clean and maintained quite well. We enjoyed the Darby fire pit with friends. Located a short walk to Narrowsburg and shopping, food and drink and a cool little brewery!
