Inte värt fem stjärnor
Det var ett vackert gammalt hotell men vi var besvikna efter vår vistelse. Det känns inte som att hotellet förtjänar fem stjärnor. Frukosten var väldigt basic - vi fick också skicka tillbaka en rätt då den var dåligt tillagad. Badrummet var gammalt och tråkigt. Oinspirerade produkter. Inget kaffe eller te på rummet - hotellet kan argumentera att de vill att rummen ska vara historiska - men det finns en skillnad mellan att bevara det gamla och ändå göra det trevligt och välkomnande för dyrt betalande gäster. De flesta i personalen var unga vilket gav ett oerfaret och kortvarigt intryck. Hade velat mötas av människor med kunskap om regionen, framförallt under historieberättelsen på kvällen (vilken utfördes av en ung svensk som tillbringat fem veckor på hotellet - hade mycket hellre hört historien från någon med ordentlig kunskap.)
I övrigt var personalen vänlig. Men för att summera var vi väldigt förvånade att hotellet hade fem stjärnor.

En route through Telemark towards western Norway this summer, we had the pleasure of spending two nights at the unique Dalen Hotel. The hotel is imposing and majestic, yet very cosy, surrounded by gardens stretching all the way down to Lake Bandak - where you'll also find the Soria Moria, a modern architectural gem of a sauna. Absolute highlight though: The dinners! Impeccable service and a lovely three-course meny. Our room was very small, which would be a bit of a challenge for an extended stay. Something to keep in mind when booking. Otherwise: A great experience!

En unik opplevelse!
Vi hadde et fantastisk opphold på hotellet. Prisen selv i høysesng var verdt den utrolig gjennomførte opplevelsen. Vi ble gledelig overraska både av foredraget om hotellets historie vi kunne delta på på kvelden, og av å bli møtt av en karaffel portvin på rommet
Fantastise omgivelser og arkitektur, og moro å oppleve at alt var så gjennomført. Vi fikk virkelig følelsen av å være tilbake til hotellets storhetstid ved århundreskiftet. Frokosten var fabelaktig, og personalet ultraprofesjonelle.

My husband and I wanted to have a coffee and lunch on the hotel terrace. Although the lady at the reception was very friendly, we immediately felt that such a visit was unwelcome. I asked if they had a lunch menu, but they couldn't produce one. Meanwhile, my husband had gone to check out the terrace. It was half empty and the tables hadn't been cleared. An unpleasant experience, and considering the prices, a lot of old junk for an exorbitant price.

I have long been wanting to stay at this very special hotel. It fully lived up to my expectations. The decor of the rooms are charming and old fashioned with no TV, coffee machine or mini bar. I prefer it like that. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms have all what you need. There are many salons with light fireplaces, comfortable deep chairs and sofas, high dark panels and paintings and pictures of royals on the walls. The atmosphere is classy old fashioned. One could easily imagine a Agatha Christie ****** taking place here. The restaurant is very special with high ceilings, beautiful landscapes on the walls and lots of space around the tables. The staff are a mix of nationalities, all speaking english. A special thanks you to the very charming headwaiter Dionisio and the receptionist Maja. Together with the rest of the staff they made our stay memorable.
