We’ve enjoyed the first class Sunday lunch here many times. The quality of produce, cooking and service is consistently first class. We stayed recently for two nights. Our room was large, comfortable and with a modern bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. There’s a great breakfast on offer too, to set you up for a day in the Peaks. Yes, the Chequers is on a main road, but the double glazing minimises any disturbance. It also means that it is conveniently located. And it’s more than balanced by a friendly dining pub, a gem of a garden and picture postcard views. The location is perfect for walkers, as well as the historic attractions of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. It’s hard to think of a quality , better value establishment that enjoys such an efficient and friendly staff in this part of the Peak District. Make sure you book; not surprisingly demand can be high!

Mid week break. Really enjoyed our stay. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was clean and a good standard, bathroom showed a little age, but this is an old property and as such I appreciate has decorating challenges. Breakfast was great with a choice of menu including freshly cooked fish. Also ate both nights at the inn and enjoyed the food although there is a fairly limited menu; thought it a bit pricey at first but seems pretty standard for the area after a bit of research. The one thing that lets the hotel down (and there is little more the owner could do to improve this) is the very busy main road right outside most of the bedroom windows. On a hot night when the windows needed to be open it felt like some of the wagons were about to come through the window, even with secondary glazing it was quite disturbing. That said, I would return if in the area.

Dirty and rather smelly ,overpriced, and not that good regarding Sunday lunch. Much nicer ,fresher, and reasonably priced places in the area We booked because we thought it was a nice day, the place would be heaving .very small group of people at lunchtime. I am not surprised at that after the experience.

Best food I’ve had out in a long time, really top notch and the staff were so friendly, attentive and helpful. We were so pleased that we chose to stay here for our short break in the Peak District, we will definitely be returning in due course..

Food was lovely and an imaginative menu but don’t go if you’re hungry - portions are tiny. Roast dinner had one, yes one, potato. Cardinal rule of any restaurant should be ‘Don’t let your customers leave hungry’. Raised it with the manager but his response was ‘no-one else has complained’.

Excellent dinner on a busy Friday evening. The chefs know what they are doing for sure. Quality meals - so you get what you pay for. The guinea fowl and crème brûlée were particularly good. Chatsworth Gold ale well kept too. If you’re lucky you can sit in the armchairs by the fire too! We Will certainly return.

This cosy pub had been dressed for Christmas and looked lovely when we arrived, we stayed in a room at the front on the road side which is noisy early morning. The room was cosy although tired, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We ate in the restaurant in the evening my husband had the roast turkey dinner and it was not worth the £22 three sprouts cut in half and one pigs in blanket !! two slices of meat but he thinks one was pork the fact he couldn't tell doesn't bode well. The breakfast however was very good and plentiful. The lady at breakfast was very friendly.

Food offering is really good, well priced and good portions. Very much had a lovely lunchtime - lovely and quieter it being on a Saturday in November. Enjoyed so much that we will be back with our walking friends for our usual pre-Christmas get together.
