Dumfries Arms Hotel

Horrendous. Be warned - this place has serious issues with smell - clearly need SOIL pips sorted. Horrid stench from bathroom has to spend whole time with door closed - unable to use. Complained to Reception - was met with I think the cleaner just forgot to put a plug back in somewhere but they don’t know where. ?!?!??? Was told a ‘Operations Manager’ would call to discuss - 5 days later - still waiting……….. Food for breakfast was acceptable, place is nice - very very dated but nice. Would still avoid - is this service is anything to go by

This is a review of the Sunday Roast special at the restaurant. I started with the cauliflower soup and it was way too peppery and it was completely blended which was disappointing. The roast beef was very overcooked. The potatoes and veg were good. Loved the chunky horseradish. Would be nice if there was a choice of doneness for the beef.

The hotel staff were very professional, extremely helpful and always pleasant. The rooms are generously proportioned and very clean. The restaurant was warm and inviting and the menu was quite comprehensive . All in all excellent value for money

This is meant to be a 4* hotel, which also specialises in Weddings and other functions. However the experience we had as hotel guests fell short of expectations. The room was small, cramped, had no space (let alone a stand for a suitcase which had to be placed on an already crowded floor. The bathroom had a faulty light. The sink hole in the basin was disgusting with black mould around the edges. The bed was uncomfortable with springs being felt through the mattress. We had to find someone to get us drinks at the bar. The menu for dinner (which we had booked for 6.45) was already sold out of two items and the remainder were "pub" food: fish and chips and burgers etc. We will not return nor recommend this hotel.

Fabulous hotel. Spotlessly clean. Lovely friendly staff although they do need more in the bar. The breakfast staff were particularly good and showed interest in our plans for the day. Next day following up on the our previous conversation. Attentive and excellent service by all of them. Our room was huge and beautifully decorated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely welcoming hotel.

The location is on the edge of Cumnock town centre with good road connections with large car park adjacent. This is a historical coaching inn built in 1717, unfortunately it doesn’t have any period retention inside, however lushly refitted as a boutique hotel. There’s a small selection of dining areas and bars which are well fitted and comfortable. We selected this hotel as it offered us a close location to Dumfries House. Typically like older hotels locating our room took us around a few turns in corridors and took a little time getting used to finding out way around. We requested a large bedded room and not disappointed, the room was large light and airy. The bed was very comfortable, plenty tea coffee and biscuits on offer, nicely decorated, huge bathroom, everything was in perfectly good order, one exception missing was no fridge. We were well looked after by lovely, friendly enthusiastically tentative staff, to the point picking up Odin conversation I was celebrating my 70th birthday, only to find a complementary bottle of wine and card in the bedroom. The food was excellent, breakfasts were to made order also with a buffet fruited and cereals. Our event dinner menu gave lots of choice and delicious. This hotel we highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate in retuning one day.
