We just spent an overnight at Amherst Shore Country Inn, and were delighted with the experience. The room was charming and captured the style we remember from living in the Maritimes for 25 years. The food was perfect. We had salmon poached with capers and lemon, the chef got it just right! The salad was of lettuce leaves from the inn's garden and local strawberries -- so much tastier than anything from a supermarket. The grounds are extensive, the view magnificent. The service in the restaurant is attentive as well. A great place to stay on the Northumberland Strait.

This review is for the Amherst Shore Inn's restaurant. We went for the special Valentine's meal and thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal. We started with a beatiful mixed greens salad with a homemade strawberry vinaigrette dressing. The ingredients were very fresh, the dressing was devine. I had the Chicken Elizabeth, chicken stuffed with feta, spinach and prosciutto, wrapped in puff pastry, for my main. Accompanied with Hollandaise sauce, it was fabulous. A roast potato, spaghetti squash and snap peas were included on the plate and were also very good My wife had the butter poached scallops with mornay sauce. This was also accompanied by the potato and vegetables described above. She loved her meal, as well. The meal was also accompanied by a just-made small loaf of brown bread which was incredibly delicious. As we only ate half of the bread, our server asked if we'd like to take the rest home, which we certainly did:) For desert, we both had the amaretto cheesecake with raspberry coulis, whipped cream and toasted almond slivers. The cheesecake was beautifully made. The amaretto flavour was very subtle and I found the coulis overpowered the amaretto so I enjoyed the cheesecake with just the whipped cream and almond slivers. The servers were very friendly, efficient and attentive without being overwhelming. The Inn was very clean and warm on a very cold night (a crackling fireplace was burning and was wonderful). Light jazz was playing in the background and was very enjoyable. All in all we really, really enjoyed the entire meal and heartily recommend the Amherst Shore Inn. It was the best meal and restaurant experience we've had in a long time!

A family owned gem of a place What a delightful stay! This 3rd generation family inn is located on the beautiful, quiet Northumberland Strait of Nova Scotia. The water is warmer there, the sand is solid and safe for wading or swimming. We stayed in a cabin with a kitchenette, expecting to make our own breakfasts. But after having breakfast there the first morning, we enjoyed it so much we decided to buy their delicious, homemade breakfasts every morning of our stay in their beautifully appointed dining room. We were there one evening when they served dinner and it was equally as delicious and lovely. If you are looking for a quiet, private spot with the option of either cook your own meals or enjoy their cooking, consider this place.
