We booked 3 nights using Tesco vouchers (for the last time - the offer is not so good now). At first we were quite disappointed. There had been a few issues regarding staff illness and a boiler breakdown and the room did seem a little underwhelming. But the place grew on us. We had booked partly to visit a relative and partly to carry on our tour of English Cathedrals. We had gone to the Peterborough Cathedral Easter Day service on the drive up from Kent and later in the trip called in at Lincoln and Southwell. We had intended to take in Leicester Cathedral but found out that it was shut until the autumn. So we called in at the beautiful Ely on the way home instead. The staff were friendly. The one evening meal we had was very tasty. Breakfasts (eaten in the bar area) were a delight. There is a charming (front room/library area right next to the bar). I have to say the Wi Fi was poor and couldn't really be accessed from our room (Bellagio). The weather was cool but the heater soon made the room snug. Filter coffee was a nice touch. I don't I ever did learn how to pronounce the village like the locals!

Warm welcome. Room basic but clean. Food was excellent in the evening and breakfast. Made very welcome. The first evening the staff went out of there way to make us comfortable as they where 2 cooks down due to holiday and illness. But although the menu was short the food was well cooked and over flowing. Not rushed at all. Although we were next to the car park we couldn't hear any noise. We will be visiting again late summer.

Met up with a group of friends last night. Worst meal I've ever had. Felt sorry for the waiting staff, although we had preordered almost every meal that came out was spolit. Bland underseasoned food, over or under cooked, overloaded plates, soggy salad, that all arrived late or not at all. Expected Ant and Dec to appear from around the corner at one stage. We gave up on the sweets as the other two courses had taken two and a half hours. I would not recommend this establishment.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room was cosy and quaint. Very comfortable bed and pillows. We stayed on the hottest nights of 2022 and had the bathroom door and both windows open, and the fan on full. Lovely complimentary toiletries and good shower. Tray included little ginger duck biscuits. Milk provided in a thermos daily rather than long-life plastic pots. The staff couldn't do enough for us. We would thoroughly recommend.

Rather than stay at an oversized and overpriced hotel in Nottingham after the cricket, we stayed overnight on the way back to Norfolk. First impressions were good as we were greeted from the man behind the bar with our names. Our rooms were more than adequate and very clean, but in need of redecoration. This pub has had CAMRA accolades and the four local-brewery handpump beers confirmed it. My beer was superb, both in flavour and serving – what a change from an overpriced hotel chain. Our suppers were freshly prepared and the breakfasts were fulsome. The scrambled eggs were done to order by someone who knew how to do it properly. This was all we wanted from this pub-with-rooms and we were pleased to have found the place. The pub itself, although perfectly acceptable inside, showed signs of neglect outside. It must have gone through a hard time due to the pandemic with an inability to reinvest. Did this affect our stay? No, and we’ll stay again when we come back from Trent Bridge.
