Opted for an upgrade to the room with the roll top bath. Some fixings need attention. Flickering bulb, chip out of sink, loose toilet roll holder, broken sealant on sink. The room was spacious, comfortable and had a small outside area which was nice. Had a DVD player? but no Netflix. I always take my firestick on my travels but was unable to connect. The EV charger is 'obsolete' as the provider described it. When are hotels going to understand how important this is to an increasing amount of guests? Breakfast was really good in particular the flapjacks. The orange juice and grapefruit juice were excellent and served in large crystal glasses. This makes a difference. Was looking forward to the tea loaf but was a little dry. Mushrooms were absolutely fantastic in terms of the range and cooking. I don't recall having better. I left a separate review on the evening dining which wasn't good.

From the gardener, reception staff, bar and waiting staff and without forgetting the housekeeping staff and the chefs, together, a truly amazing team, where nothing was too much trouble. Some of the most amazing food I've had in the Lakes. Recommend the fish. The breakfasts were also like a special occasion. The room had everything you could need and the estate itself is fabulous. I'd love to come again in the Winter, when there may be the chance of a roaring fire. My husband recommended the steak, but quite frankly we were spoiled for choice with the food. I would say to the Manager, you have a remarkable team, who look after their guests without being unduly sicophantic, which would come across as insincere. Truly Loved it. Only gripe (lol) no Black Pig beer in bottles to take home. That would be great to put in a hearty stew recipe.

Very old building, lovingly maintained, with very modern rooms, best of both worlds. All the staff are extremely freindly and professional, the food is exceptional, great stay.

Adequate accommodation for one night. Bar staff seemed inexperienced. Presentation of drinks a little sub-standard. Pimm’s needed to be done 3 times 🙁. Bedroom generally tired and very hot. Evening meal average … breakfast good.

We went for the alternative afternoon tea with a group of friends for a special treat, however we were greatly disappointed. The food was not fresh, the soup was almost cold, the chicken was very hard and dry, barely edible, as were the fries and pork scratchings. The fish was very nice, as was the cheesecake, but the scone and the chocolate tart were dry and stale, as a result I asked for the service charge to be refunded which it was. We had travelled for almost an hour for a lovely treat, but we were left disappointed, and will not be back.
