Visited with family for a celebration. Had the Sunday roast and desserts. Food was fresh, plentiful and really nicely presented. Staff were really lovely especially the young man serving on Sunday. Nice manager too who came over to our table to make sure everything was to our pleasing. The restaurant and pub area is rich in history and very charming. Fully accessible for those with disabilities. We look forward to visiting again

I had booked this hotel as I was going to a wedding near by and was meeting some friends at the hotel. When I got there, there were hardly any staff around. I spoke to the bar man who asked me if I could check in after the wedding as they were very busy and had an event to set up for. I left my bags in a friends room whilst we were at the wedding and would check in upon my return (I did request early check in). When we came back from the wedding I went to check in and the night porter said there had been an issue with the system. Whilst my name and booking was clearly there, no room had been allocated and there were no rooms available (there was one that was offline but they couldn't get into it and couldn't guarantee someone else hadn't been given it)- totally unacceptable! The night porter tried and failed to get hold of the manager to resolve this, however by this point it was past 1am in the morning. I was asked whether I could drive as they have a sister hotel... I did not have a car and would have been unfit to drive anyway. I was offered a drink in the bar whilst he tried to resolve this. My friends in the end said that I could sleep in their twin room, meaning one of us had to sleep on the floor as there were 3 of us. There were no z- beds left, just given some filthy duvets to sleep on. There has been no apology at all apart from the night porter and there were no staff around this morning to speak to. The whole stay was an absolute shambles and I wouldn't recommend the stay to anyone, unless you wish to be stranded without a room. If I had been staying there by myself I would have been extremely vulnerable as a lone female traveller.

All round terrible! Checked in & given a room which was already occupied. Corridor to bedrooms has a funny musty smell Asked to wait in the bar while the issue was resolved where we could have our welcome drink (booked through secret escapes) Eventually given our room which was tired, dated & not very clean. Shower head in bathroom had thick black mould on it which I had to ask to be cleaned. It was cleaned although the shower tray had debris in it & hair. Neither of us showered! The mattress needs to go in the bin along with the terrible pillows! The lady who checked us in turned out to be the manager who on checkout said to my friend she’s been there two weeks and wants to know about issues so she can resolve them. She didn’t deal with our issues though she passed them on to another lady who was agency. She was very helpful & gave us a bottle of Prosecco for our trouble. Food was ok, but my partner had Gammon which was the thinnest piece of gammon I’ve ever seen it could have been thick cut bacon to be honest. Wine was nice but at £34 a bottle I expect it to be. Our friends got back to their room at 11:30pm to find they had no duvet and after eventually finding the night porter told they’d have to wait while the bar was being cleared. A quilt was found and brought to their room but with dirty marks all over it. Breakfast was chaotic, waited an age for it to arrive and it had been thrown at the plate. Sausages worst budget sausages I’ve ever seen or had the misfortune of eating or not as the case may be. This place could be really nice with a revamp and some good staff. As it is, it’s more fawlty towers just not as funny! Shout out to Fran though she was really helpful, and worked really hard to get it right.

A tired, rundown place with poor furnishings stained carpets, mould in the bathroom rusty bins genuinely really wouldn’t stay again good luck to those who do I was advised not to eat as it was overpriced undercooked and poor portions as one of the guests informed me

Very disappointing stay at the vicarage, mainly due to lack of staff even though they were friendly and helpful. Rooms very out of date, room 7 No running water from tap in sink bed & pillows awful. Decor very out of date, carpet felt very unclean iron burn mark on floor in room 6 walls very thin could hear the man coughing next room to ours, dogs barking generally noisy. I’ve seen better looking morgues! Breakfast service was slow not much choice on buffet, but menu was decent Could have used local produce, not great quality had to ask for teabags as none on the buffet making more work the staff. Definitely not worth £152 a night (which does not even include breakfast) we couldn’t wait to leave

They stay was good, however the hotel is in need of a bit of a 'face lift', it seems a while since it was last done.... also the beds could be a little more comfortable. The staff are all very friendly and can not do enough for you, (a couple of them were very new to the place).
