Holiday Inn Express & Suites Corning

Lipstick on a newly remolded Pig. The staff was excellent. The building is trash. First our entry door was falling of the hinges. Second no tissue in room. Third When they remolded this building 2 years ago the electrician must have been on Meth. The switches do not light the area they are in, instead they switch the lights in a different area so its a hunt for the right switch for the right light (lots of blank plates over old electric boxes). The bathe fan goes around and makes a lot of noise but moves no air, the whole room fills with steam Tried to call second room we booked and no answer, with a quick check I found it unplugged. Also when entering second room we booked found table on sofa. TV remote would not work, dead batteries. One last thing the ice machine on second floor does not make ice although it runs. The first floor ice machine works but is missing the grate which makes it difficult to fill ice bucket so I took the grate out of the second floor machine and put it in the first floor machine. "Thank you for a lovely stay" Please don't write an empty apology, save it

This is our second stay here in 13 days. There is still ongoing construction and updating of the hotel, so I won't review the basic condition of the room. On our last stay, I spoke with Yuri, at the lobby reception counter. I explained my wife has mobility issues and asked if on our next visit on Sept 27, we could get an ADA room. She checked, and found an available ADA room on our arrival date, and noted it on our reservation, which I saw online when checking later. When we arrived on Sept 27th, I was told by the afternoon desk personnel, they did not have any ADA rooms. I explained what transpired on my previous stay and she again said they had no ADA rooms, that we probably made the reservation on line with a 3rd party vendor, who didn't know their room availability, even though I again explained an employee on site here, at this hotel, made the assignment  We were eventually assigned a room on the 4th floor, which had been newly updated.  When we arrived at the room, we found construction workers still doing finish work, an no room amenities (frig, coffee maker, etc) in the room, as well as the television not working. We were finally assigned the same room we had on our previous stay, which was in poor condition, but by this time we were glad to have a room! Upon checking our reservation, after my discussion with the afternoon clerk, the notation about a ADA room was no longer on our reservation. We appreciate all that Yuri, the morning desk clerk, did for us. We are extremely disappointed in the afternoon desk clerk  who checked us in both times, in not honoring the room type noted on our reservation. 

Unfortunately, I have had a terrible experience with Holiday Inn Corning. The staff has been continuously rude and dismissive towards me. After 2 months of incorrectly being charged for 2 rooms, I still have not received a refund, or even a call or email back. If you’re planning to stay here, be cautious that if anything goes wrong with your booking, you will not be helped.

Spouse and I are frequent road-trippers with kids 6 & 3. We were literally talking in the car as we were approaching our final overnight stop about how reliable HIE locations are for cleanliness and quality. Spoke too soon. This place is awful. We were greeted at the door with two glaring red notices from the city ordering the hotel to cease their unpermitted renovations (building materials were stacked outside and it seemed that one entire floor was closed). Upon entering we noticed that all of the common areas (lobby, elevator, hallways) were hot. Not sure if the A/C didn't work or if the owners just don't run it, but the building was showing the effects of baking in the 90+ heat that day. The room was sweltering when we walked in. The property is just not well-maintained. Everywhere you look you see frayed carpet, disturbed ceiling tiles, peeling wall paper, and cheap, deteriorating veneer. Little details you only appreciate when they are missing--like a soap dish on the vanity counter--were missing. The one bright spot was a young desk clerk who truly tried to be helpful with a situation we had to deal with while we were there. But, on top of the issues above, we encountered a guest that made us feel unsafe staying there with our family. We'd been there about an hour when we decided to cut our losses and leave. I'm writing this review from a much better HIE property up the road in Red Bluff--much more consistent with what we've come to expect from the chain. The hotel is near places to eat and a Love's truck stop. We had a king room on the 2nd floor. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. We appreciated the included breakfast (although the oatmeal was very thin and runny). The parking lot was very full. There were only 4 or 5 handicap spots, and one of them was being used to store construction materials! See my photos for details.
