We were in town for a wedding and they had a room block for us at the Biltmore. We had never stayed there before, the compound is BIG, the lobby is so long that if you agree to meet someone there you will have to be very specific on whereabouts exactly, otherwise you will miss each other. As soon as the car arrived at the motor lobby we were welcomed by the staff, immediately felt that old school, old property, classy vibe. Check-in was smooth and quick. There's only 3 elevators in the hotel so they're a bit slow but once we got to the room it was all good. The room itself was on the smaller size but when asked around friends it turns out they have even smaller rooms! We did have a balcony but as you can imagine the weather was way too hot and humid to be outside nor keep the door open. The bathroom was modernized and beautified but unfortunately the piping has aged alongside the hotel. The water pressure in the shower was very weak and the toilet would barely flush, to the point of getting clogged once. The grounds are also a bit outdated... carpets, floors, ceilings. Doesn't feel quite neglected but it does show a need for a renovation sooner rather than later. The food in all restaurants we tried was very good. We had lunch once by the pool and had the Seafood Cobb Salad, it was VERY good. Also tried the Turkey Club Sandwich, also good. Food and beverage is pricey, as it is in all hotels. Cocktails swing around $20, a large pot of coffee $17... It doesn't help that Gratuity is already included in the bill... 22%!!!!!!! A bit excessive, if you ask me. Service at the pool is quite slow but i guess they just need more staff. Don't let the size of the pool trick you, there's only lounge chairs on one side of it so they can't really argue they're overwhelmed by high demand. In the lower level there's a bakery/coffee shop. They have pastries, sweets and other snacks. The pastries were good but i had a sandwich from there as i was in a hurry and, at best, it was mediocre. Worse than an airport sandwich, if that's even possible. For the rate we got we had a very good experience but i do have to say that for the normal rate they charge you are probably better off staying somewhere else.
