We only overnighted here having driven from Cairns to Cooktown (which we had not visited before) via the sealed highways. The scenery en route was far more interesting than we were expecting, with several excellent scenic lookouts along the way. And Milkwood Lodge was a very pleasant surprise too. Just a few kms out of town, the cabins are nestled in the rain forest complete with parking, a kitchenette, a comfy bed and a great shower - in fact we wish we had stayed longer! Cooktown is a very pleasant welcoming locality but before you decide on dates, check out on-line the opening times of the various sights/things to do, as a lot of things are closed on the days you may expect them to be open, e.g. weekends are not ideal compared to mid-week as other visitors we met also found. If you want a piece of tropical Australia without the hassles of camping, Milkwood is a great option, particularly unique if you are visiting from overseas. As others have mentioned, our host was very friendly and helpful. They can also offer car hire should you require it. .

Good little overnighter. Very clean, apart from the fridge that was a tat on the nose. Perhaps previous occupants had fish. It’s away from town if you seek quiet. Bed is comfy, aircon too. Cannot fault the place as it’s well cared for by the owner. Has private parking, no need to worry that things absconder. Easy to reach.

Give it a go for peace and relaxation
Really enjoyed the rainforest setting. The property and rooms are immaculately neat and clean. Very peaceful relaxing on the balcony / deck. Premium quality bed / pillows and sheets - slept very well. Staff so very friendly and helpful. I think this place and all of Cooktown is beautiful, but reminding others, best to have a car and some bug spray. Hotel is 3mins drive outa town.

Tucked away in Cooktown, Milkwood lodge is a tranquil lodge with cabin style accomodation nestled in the rainforest. The hosts are super friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about Cooktown, happy to help you discover the sights and sounds of the area and live on site. Cabins are very clean, contemporary and spacious. Fully equipped kitchenette, beautiful hot showers and have an airy feel. The balconies overlooking the treetops offer an escape and is a beautiful place to sit back with a cup of tea. The amenities: shower gel, shampoos etc smell divine and the little touches like the deluxe hot chocolate and cookies are a real treat! Highly recommend staying here if you're in Cooktown!
