A beautiful little hotel, I think there are only 6 rooms though. All staff were on hand for any queries and help in any way they can. During my stay it was lovely and sunny and they have an outdoor area idea for a while in the sun 😂.
If you have any sort of disability and find it difficult to climb stairs this place is probably not for you, no lift in the hotel and all rooms are upstairs, the car park is at the back of the hotel with steps up to the hotel that has a hand rail but the few steps into the hotel doesn’t. I was in room 6, 3 lots of stairs to negotiate but the view was spectacular.

Second visit to this pub The food was really tasty especially my beef burger and the soup was also very nice. The staff including the barman and the waiting staff were really friendly and helpful. So far my favourite pub in Coniston and is highly recommended.

Visited for a drink after a day walking. The drinks were fine, but the landlord was unnecessarily grumpy and rude. It felt like we were really putting him out by asking questions about the drinks and then paying on a credit card. It felt like he didn’t like visitors.

Old school but all the more lovely classic Lakeland pub. Atmospheric bar and old dining area. Brilliant choice of real ale. Good value and well cooked pub grub.

Shocking £10 for two pints and 2 hours later £14. When challenged the bar man said it couldn’t have been that price two hours earlier even on locals rate. When I said I am local and live in the lakes close to Coniston he stated I needed to live in Coniston. Then he proceeded to say even at locals rate it would have been £11.20. SHOCKING, should have left the pints and gone elsewhere

I`ve stayed in the Sun many times before, normally with friends or family, this time I stayed by myself. As always I received a warm welcome from the staff, some of whom have been there for years, which is always a sign of a good hotel. I stayed in the small double / single - room 5, which was absolutely perfect for what I needed, comfortable, spotlessly clean, with a cracking shower it and looked like it had very recently been decorated. As with all the rooms at the Swan they come with the added bonus of that wonderful views of the base of the Old Man and the village. Both nights I was there, I slept like a log and the only sound you can hear is that of the birdsong and the rain ( well it wouldn`t be Coniston without it ! ) I was running in a race nearby, so only had a very light breakfast on my first morning, toast and porridge, but the day after I had everything they had to offer, which includes, cereal, yogurts, toast, fruit juices, tea / coffee and a wide choice of cooked food ( I had scrambled egg and salmon ), served in the lovely conservatory at the front of the hotel. I didn`t eat at the Sun, but I had a few drinks and although the Black Bull down the road has won awards for it`s real ale , I can honestly say that the real ale in the Sun is just as well kept, offers more variety and is slightly cheaper too. ( The pint of Fell Dark Mild I had was one of the best pints I`ve had all year ). Also the bar in the Sun feels much more like a proper cosy country pub, than a hotel bar, which makes for a really pleasant place to drink and eat. The Sun isn`t the Ritz, but it has a charm that non of the other hotels in the village do and it`s one of my favourite places to stay in the whole of the Lakes. See you next year, for more of the same.

I have been patronising The Sun for over thirty years. After a days climbing on Dow Crag or walking the Coniston fells there is no better place for a pint of beer. If the weather gods are being kind there is a good size beer garden to sit out in. If you seek a great pint of beer Ignore the roadside establishments down in the village, walk no more than a hundred yards up to the Sun. I have no idea what the food is like or the accommodation but I highly recommend the beer.

Eaten here twice. It is a short walk from Coniston village centre which means it benefits from not having its outdoor seating on the busy roadside. If you’re looking for a quieter experience with stunning views, take the road by the Copper Mines office. The Sunday lunch was good value for money - but could have been a tad hotter. I enjoyed the cheeseburger and wife the fish finger sandwich.
