This hotel is still as nice as it was when we visited about two years ago. There were few changes like the reception we had to go the front to the main bar to check in . The staff were very pleasent and helpful. We were shown to our room which was very nice and clean. The bathroom had a walk in shower. The bed was comfortable and a fan had been left on which made the room feel nice and cool. Breakfast was very good. My only feed back is the coffee machine, we followed the instructions and it made half a cup of coffee which was cold. when I tried to top it up the machine stopped working, would just prefer a kettle. The room was a tad noisey as we were over the entrance to the car park and opposite the kitchen so did not sleep very well. We are back again in December so have asked for a less noisey room.

Very disappointed with the service, visited with a large group of ladies for a gentle gathering for a hen night, all meals were pre-ordered. Not acceptable amount of time waiting for our meal, mistakes made with orders, some missed out altogether, desserts not all available, not enough staff to cater for our group and time between courses was definately out of order. One plus, the food was rather good when it came.....!!! Was looking forward to my visit to newly refurbished venue, but probably wont bother again.

The staff were unfailingly lovely and the room was well-appointed, although the noisy machinery outside the bedroom window was intrusive. As there is no aircon in such an historic building, there was no alternative for us but to have the windows open all night in the extremely hot weather. Thankfully, there was a portable fan available which did at least help to give a feeling of a breeze during the night. However, the biggest issue with the room was the bathroom. The floor comprises highly polished tiles which are absolutely lethal when wet. There is no effective advanced warning of this. In the bathroom itself is a small sign in a decorative font with a list of items you may have forgotten which you can obtain from reception including toothpaste, sewing kit, shower gel, sanitary products, shoe shining kit etc. The very last item says that a non-slip bath mat is available. This is completely inadequate. There should be a mat available in the bathroom and there should be a prominent notice warning of the extreme danger. I did the splits, damaging my already arthritic knee and my lower back and was only saved by my proximity to the outside wall as I started to fall. Had this event happened to my disabled travelling companion, the damage would have been much worse. The shower is an open, walk-in type so there is no way to stop the water going everywhere (including soaking the toilet roll due to the toilet and shower being opposite each other and very close together) I can see no justification as to why there can't be proper advance warning of the danger of the wet floor and the provision of a non-slip mat as a matter of course. There's a prominent warning about the sensitivity of the smoke alarms, so why not? And hopefully before someone has an even more serious injury than I did.

Awful experience - booked for special family birthday lunch. Food definitely not fresh - seafood absolutely not fresh and out of freezer. Goats cheese and beetroot salad served with no beetroot so then returned for a different salad option. Still served though and no mention it would lack the beetroot! Squid returned to the kitchen - flavourless and definitely not fresh and bland served 3 pieces on a plate with tomatoes as a garnish!!!! They have spent a great deal on the refurb but seriously need to rethink the catering. Initial waitress fab then had to chase to be served drinks, clear tables and of course for the bill. Total lack of atmosphere and empty. Truly disappointing experience - should have gone to the Plough at Eaton or somewhere else!

This property is very welcoming. Beautiful furnishings and rooms. Extremely neat, clean and tidy. This is not like any ordinary English pub. Staff very friendly and breakfast was great. We were very pleasantly surprised by this venue.
