Myself, husband, daughter and boyfriend stayed at the water rat on 3rd January for one night. We had the garden view room and my daughter had the standard room. Both lovely and clean. The garden view room has gorgeous views of the garden and river, really lovely. We ate at the pub which was delicious. We were all very happy with it. The breakfast was also delicious and the lady serving us was so nice and friendly. All staff were very helpful and hardworking. Couldn’t fault it, such a pleasant stay. Would recommend.

We’ve eaten at the water Rat in Ironbridge on several occasions and the food and service are always good. often when we have eaten in restaurants/pubs on Christmas Day the standards are not quite the same due to them catering for larger parties etc. However the meal that we had at the Water Rat on Christmas Day this year was really lovely and the service was excellent, despite them being busy. Thank you to everyone there for a very good Christmas Day 👍

We went for Christmas Day lunch; No Christmas atmosphere. Poor quality food, Portion size was not like a Christmas day lunch you would expect. Vegetables obviously frozen, no potatoes apart from a few frozen roast ones. Complete rip off £75 per person.

We visited for a family meal on a Friday evening. As we visited only last year with no issues, we were expecting a nice evening meal again. However, there were a few things that put a dampener on the evening. First of all, the restaurant was almost empty despite being a Friday evening. For some reason, they had put three tables together that were all completely different sizes, some slightly different in height too, to fit 9 of us together. I find this odd considering the restaurant was virtually empty and other tables could have been fit together. The food was average. There were no issues as such, but the quality just wasn't as good as we could remember or for the price too. Additionally, the staff were not particularly friendly or attentive. When we first arrived, it didn't feel like a very welcoming atmosphere when the staff greeted us. I could understand this if the staff were rushed off their feet and busy, but the restaurant was almost empty. Throughout the evening, the staff spent a lot of their time on their phones behind the bar and we had to keep going up to them to ask for drinks. Towards the end of our meal, after spending approximately £200, we were told that if we want to stay for drinks we would have to move elsewhere so they could set up for breakfast... despite there being 1 hour before closing and breakfast not starting until 11am the next day. Nevertheless, we moved and hoped to get some drinks. Most of us wanted a coffee, however, we were told that the coffee machine had been completely switched off and they would not be putting it back on. Again, there was still an hour left before they were due to close! Also, we had not received any warnings they were going to stop serving coffee, otherwise we would have ordered beforehand. Common sense would surely make them think that a big group might want coffee at the end of their meals, like many do. It just seemed like they wanted to push us out early in hopes of getting an early finish. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to return as the quality and atmosphere has gone downhill.

Disappointing- the room was sold as a double but the bed was so small more 3/4 bed, we were unable to turn over. Also the room next door someone delighted in slamming their door so hard the walls rattled. Making a disturbed night. Right on a main road so traffic noise. Staff were friendly but a little inept except for Sue? At breakfast she was much better. During the evening we were the only people in the pub making a flat atmosphere. Good points food good if not a little expensive. Room was immaculate give the cleaner a bonus. Nice Riverside walk from garden to ironbridge. Would definitely not stay again sorry!

Very average establishment with a limited menu which failed to impress, but most of all the lack of service provided by an indifferent, unprofessional staff was disappointing. Our table was left unattended with empty glasses throughout our entire meal & the youthful staff appeared to be more concerned with their phones & each other than providing service! Will not return to this venue,

Received warm welcome and lady showed us to purchase room which was in a separate building next to the pub. Secure as accessed front door woth keypad. We had room 2 at the back which I'd recommend as quiet at night. Room was a good size with large tv and sofa. Bathroom had a smell of urine which we both noticed so we opened the window. Popped back tk the bar and ordered lunch and drinks which were good. We did mention the smell wnd said perhaps it was because it was jot and room was shut up but lady said housekeeping not there and it had been cleaned. I said there was no problem on cleanliness and it was fine for the night. I imagine it was the laminate flooring. Large fluffy towels, fridge in hall with water amd extra milk etc so everything you needed. Bed was comfy and we had a good night's sleep. We walked along the towpath to the Iron Bridge and back along the road. Evening meal was OK but we were the only people apart from one gentlemen so lacked a bit of atmosphere. Both staff members were lovely, warm and welcoming. Bit disappointed neither the starter or main course I'd wanted were available but chose something else. Food was good, tasty and hot. Price was fair value especially as we had a discount as we were residents which came as a nice surprise when we got the bill. Full English breakfast was good and cooked to order. Lady on duty was also warm and welcoming. All in all a fair place to stay. Wouldn't say it's undergone as recent a refurbishment as we'd thought. Bathroom and some furniture showing signs of deterioration. Good power shower though which is always a bonus.
