Does anyone know what the "L.A." in the hotel name means ? There are new owners and they don't know. I've talked to the Armstrong County Historical Museum , the Claude City Hall and the Claude High School and none of them know. "Los Angeles" has been suggested but why would that have any connection with a motel in Claude, Texas , a little town about 20 miles east of Amarillo ? If anyone can help....H E L P !!!!! But one thing certain ...it seems to be nice place for a stopover if going cross country from Texas to California. Just recently been remodeled and updated.

This is a family run motel about 30 miles south east of Amarillo on Hwy 287. We stopped here after thinking we would find a place on 287 when we joined it in Amarillo. There wasn’t anywhere to stay until we came upon LA Motel in Claude. The motel is run by a delightfully young couple. The rooms, while simple, are very comfortable and very clean and reasonably priced. We liked the motel so much we spent the night on our return journey to Denver from Dallas.

The owner or worker who checked me in was rude. There was a faucet leaking all night and a leak from the toilet on the floor. I guess that is what you get with a 2 star shady motel.
