Been meaning to write this review and was going to let it slide had we had a better second experience, recently, but sadly not. We booked a Christmas meal here in December and 50% of our staff, including myself, were severely poorly afterwards, symptoms pertaining to food poisoning. I won’t describe them here. I did not want to return again but decided to give the benefit of the doubt as it was the nearest venue for my friend who lived locally plus had mobility issues and I was remaining hopeful for a better second experience. I returned recently to have lunch with my friend but the cold reception by the bar staff and massive under staffing in the restaurant area (only one waitress) - meant a long wait before any recognition was given, which we had to seek out via the bar area. My friend, who had a disability, was unable to continue to wait to be seated. It appeared we should have realised they were short staffed, by the curt comment made by the barman. We ended up leaving and going to a more hospitable venue where the food was fantastic and the service to boot. Plus no food poisoning! Kingscliffe - you need to do better! Your staff are the face of your hotel. They need to be trained to ensure food is cooked in a sanitary way so people do not fall sick. Plus you need to provide enough waiting staff so customers are not left un-acknowledged, made to feel guilty and have to leave.
