We were very happy with our stay at Kings cliff hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful during our check-in and when we used the bar in the evening and the restaurant for breakfast. It's fantastically situated on the sea front and was about half an hour walk along the coast from Clacton centre. The hotel itself was very clean and tidy and generally in good condition. Overall a positive experience and a recommendation from me.

Positives: - Clean bedding and comfy bed - Breakfast was served quickly and it was very tasty. Good variety of choices - Great location Cons: - The booking said the hotel includes toiletries. These were empty and when I asked if they had anymore at the hotel reception, he looked around for a few seconds and then I got the response from the staff member of "it's not really my forte to be honest". A 25 minute round walk to the closest shop at 9pm after a full day's work wasn't ideal at all, when this should have been included. - Woken up at 4:45am by the bin lorry directly outside my window. - The fan was so dusty that it was unusable. - The toilet roll looked as though it had been kicked around on the floor. - General tlc of the bathroom needed (paint peeling off, seals and showerheads grimy and not working efficiently, with water spraying in all directions [not just down]). - A minor thing, but it would have been nice for a plug socket to have been near the bed. Then to top it all off, the hotel tried to charge me twice. Not a positive experience at all.

Nice rooms, with air con and comfy bed. Disappointed that last order for food was 8.30. Shout out must go to the receptionist Mia who was very friendly, attentive and professional. Sadly one barman did not display these qualities. Great location as right on beachfront and 30/40 minute slow stroll into Clacton. Cooked Breakfast great when it arrived however buffet part could have been better stocked. Free parking was a nice bonus. Good hotel for the price point.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Spacious bedroom on first floor, corner position with views of gardens and a calm sea and pristine sands. Quiet position. but close to Clacton centre. Full English at breakfast is very substantial and well cooked. Also ate here 2 evenings. Excellent food. Their Pavlova is to die for ! Plenty of free parking and hotel is easily accessible from and to surrounding area. Run by an enthusiastic and versatile young team. Always helpful, efficient, smiling.

Booked directly with the hotel and pleased with their rates. Lovely sea view room on the first floor. Hotel was clean and tidy- staff were all friendly. Free parking, great walk along the promenade opposite the hotel to Clacton Pier. Restaurant had a varied selection for lunch and we sat chatting happily in there eating and drinking for 3 hours.

Been meaning to write this review and was going to let it slide had we had a better second experience, recently, but sadly not. We booked a Christmas meal here in December and 50% of our staff, including myself, were severely poorly afterwards, symptoms pertaining to food poisoning. I won’t describe them here. I did not want to return again but decided to give the benefit of the doubt as it was the nearest venue for my friend who lived locally plus had mobility issues and I was remaining hopeful for a better second experience. I returned recently to have lunch with my friend but the cold reception by the bar staff and massive under staffing in the restaurant area (only one waitress) - meant a long wait before any recognition was given, which we had to seek out via the bar area. My friend, who had a disability, was unable to continue to wait to be seated. It appeared we should have realised they were short staffed, by the curt comment made by the barman. We ended up leaving and going to a more hospitable venue where the food was fantastic and the service to boot. Plus no food poisoning! Kingscliffe - you need to do better! Your staff are the face of your hotel. They need to be trained to ensure food is cooked in a sanitary way so people do not fall sick. Plus you need to provide enough waiting staff so customers are not left un-acknowledged, made to feel guilty and have to leave.

Shocking experience! If I could give zero, I would. Staff appeared less than happy to be there and give the hospitality industry a bad name. Mucky menus, curdled milk for tea, cremated cod, bacon on the turn, room that resembled a prison cell minus the bars. Cut short our 2 night break. Considering part of a group there's clearly no balances and checks on service, food, amenities and the rest. Closest experience ever to a Fawlty Towers experience! Never ever again!

Stayed in the suite. Very run down. Tatty walls, with dirt marks. Dirty windows. Dusty bed frame. Dusty carpets. Blocked sink. Dirty bath. Mood and lime scale on taps. Uncleared toilet. Damaged furniture. Breakfast ok, but staff need to be more attentive and replenish stock. Such a shame, as it’s a lovely building in a fabulous location.
