This is a beautiful resort. The staff were incredibly kind and always welcome you with a smile. They have snacks and coffee/tea time throughout the day and the dinner buffets were fantastic. There is also a lot of activities like water aerobics, stretching, volleyball.
The only downside: people are allowed to smoke everywhere, on the beach, by the pool, the lobby, the chill areas. It’s really gross and very unhealthy for those who do not smoke.
Sultan Sands in Zanzibar is a fantastic hotel to unwind after a few days on safari. The rooms are excellent (spacious, quiet, and comfortable). The social areas are also well above average, with four pools (including a quieter one for those looking to truly relax), several restaurants, bars, and various game areas like snooker and ping pong. There’s even a spot for beach soccer and volleyball. The staff is attentive and professional, from the gardeners to the receptionists, restaurant staff, and entertainers. Everyone we encountered was friendly and eager to ensure we had a great stay. Two standout aspects of Sultan Sands, in my opinion, are the quality of the food and the beach. - The food is local, spicy, and of excellent quality with a great variety to choose from. - The beach right in front of the hotel is stunning, with soft sand, crystal-clear water, and a perfect temperature. Surrounding the hotel, the beach area has several shops selling local crafts, and there are also numerous vendors who enjoy chatting with tourists. While they are keen to sell their products, they are polite and not overly pushy if you’re not interested, which adds a charming and authentic local flavor to the area. There are a couple of areas where the hotel could improve: 1) The hotel should invest in maintaining the cleanliness of the beach in front of and around the property. The beach and ocean are beautiful, but there is quite a bit of plastic and some litter that should be collected. While I understand that the beach isn't the hotel's direct responsibility, they have enough staff to handle this additional task and greatly enhance the cleanliness of the environment. I strongly believe the hotel should work to ensure the beach is consistently clean and should encourage their staff and local vendors to participate in regular cleanups. 2) All goods at the hotel (food, drinks) are priced in the local currency. However, when it comes time to settle the bill via credit card at the end of the stay, the hotel only accepts payment in USD, with an exorbitant exchange rate—nearly 15% higher than the actual rate. If prices are displayed in the local currency, it doesn’t seem fair to force guests to pay in USD, especially with such a significant markup. My final payment ended up being considerably higher than the advertised cost for additional products and services.
This is amazing, beautiful place where you have everything what you need! Rooms, food, stuff everything is excellent. I highly recommend this place for holidays. I think this is one of the best hotel I have ever been to. All the stuff is friendly, smiling all the time and always ready to help you and make you feel like a VIP person. Food is delicious with so much taste and flavor and also so many variations which includes local food and other cuisine. It is all inclusive resort but in the bars they serve good quality drinks and alcohol. Coca-cola and other sodas are in the glass bottles so you are sure that it is not cheaper verision with water. Rooms are impeccable clean every single day with little touch of the african decoration's like for example hibiscus flowers. It is very kind. But one of the most beautiful part is nature and locations of the hotel. Most of the rooms has sea view (oceanview) and every single meter of the hotel area is full of palm trees, bananas, hibiscus and absolutely incredible nature! In the hotel is really everything you need to have holiday of your life. Big applause to the menaegment of the hotel who is always ready to talk and solve problems ans issues. But also to the all of the stuff who has amazing, positive attitude. One situation: One day I was sitting in the restaurant and finishing my morning tea. It was 10:15 so quarter past the time when breakfast is over. One of the waiter came to me with the most friendly, beautiful and honest smile that he could have. I said ,,I am sorry. I know I am late and you want to clean. I will quick finish my team and I am gone” He answer: ,,Don’t worry Madame, I didn’t came to rush you. I just wanted let you know that we will start clean buffet and I was wondering if you maybe want to have something more” This attitude we need in the European hotels. And this is just one of the many situations that I could mention. Highly recommend this place for holiday :)

On arrival I was upgraded to a sea view room which was decorated in semi traditional style which I loved. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Food in the restaurant was very tasty. The pool was the best I’ve experienced on my stay on the island. Good size for lap swimming and just relaxing. They have a cute little rustic outdoor weights area and there’s a great little shop onsite (Duotone) which hires out kite surfing, windfoils and SUP’s, etc. Mvuvi has 2 locations. There’s also a great view from the top floor of the hotel. They do massage up there but you can go up and check out the view. I was at The Beach Lounge location but the other location was also a great spot for a meal (on the deck or upstairs) - it also has accommodation and a book swap library for avid readers. I hadn’t been lucky with snorkeling in ZNZ but Kiwengwa presented the best starfish viewing and a good mix of marine life which I hadn’t found in other locations. In general, Kiwengwa lists everything in USD but you can pay TZS if you ask. I found the northern end much busier with larger hotels and many Massai and shops. I preferred the quieter space of The Beach Lounge but the action was only a short walk away. I would definitely stay here again.
