The room was clean and decent size but the room and bathroom walls and doors need redecorating and at least a fresh paint job. The sliding window didn’t close properly either and I got some odd reason that it was designed that way to let in air. The way to access the room meant I had to walk along the side of the hotel where the bins are without a proper sensor light or set of them. I didn’t feel comfortable walking back that way. The hotel itself was locked and dark after 7. I did ask them to turn a light in at the front and they did do that. The pool was fine but the jacuzzi was half filled with old water and not working. Overall not a good experience despite cheery staff who I felt had no control over changing the situation.
Paihia is so big, there is no geographical place to say, live in the circle of the beach, whatever is the same. There is a swimming pool in the hotel, but it is not possible to use it in winter. The room booked by Ctrip was on the first floor, and the light was completely blocked by the pool. It is really uncomfortable to turn on the lights during the day. The room is quite big, and the two-bedroom apartment has a separate bathroom in each room, which is quite convenient. There is a western restaurant on the doorstep of the hotel, and things are delicious.
The most cost-effective stay in New Zealand! ! ! Two 1.5-meter large beds, very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook your own food. Perfect. The disadvantage is that the sheets are clean, but the bedding is dirty. Their sheets only help to separate you from the bedding, but they don't fit in. If you don’t call house keeping, there will be no house keeping. If you need house keeping during your stay, remember to tell the front desk every morning ~

We loved our stay here. Our second floor corner suite had gorgeous views of the bay and sunrise. Fantastic location as it’s a short walk to restaurants, bars, and the ferry wharf. Waitangi is a short drive or walk away. Our suite was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for three nights. The bed was comfortable, and we had plenty of space. Lyn was warm and friendly and gave us good local recommendations. We would happily stay here again!
The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to the pier, and there are all kinds of specialty shops in the surrounding supermarkets. Parking is convenient and safe. The 2 bedroom apartment has a reasonable layout, warm and fresh layout, and complete kitchen supplies. The bathroom seems to be a bit cramped because of the washing machine dryer. In addition, the door switch of the room has a squeaky sound. When the night is quiet, it is still quite beautiful. In fact, the WD-40 can be solved. The hotel should be able to improve it. .
Booked a private double bed room which was comfortable and spacious. Room had everything we needed for our stay. Located in the township. Close walk to the wharf & shops. Only issue is the parking. Only a few available onsite otherwise there is off street parking but has to be moved at a specific time. This is also a backpackers so there are shared spaces available & kitchen for cooking. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The images are a little misleading. For the price, you expect it to be basic, but not uncomfortable or unclean, but that's just what it was. We uncovered a number of issues during our stay: the only heating provided was an ancient oil heater, which, in NZ winter, meant an absolutely baltic room. The bathroom was like the 3rd world: broken light, broken extractor fan, mildew-covered toilet seat. Bedding was damp due to high moisture levels, and this meant that when we left the heater on so that the unit would be warmer upon our return later in the day, the whole room smelled of damp. Also, put in that it was an adult and two teenagers staying, and they decided to put the two teens in a single bed. A frayed and dangerous cable provided on another heater which we requested. Sofa was broken, however this issue was fixed by the attendant, who was incredibly kind and helpful. It seems the establishment may be undergoing some work in the not too distant future, but until then, I'd give it a miss. Plenty of better options elsewhere in Paihia or even in Russell across the bay.
My husband and I stayed at Ala Moana for a month (mid-February to mid-March) and were very happy with this accommodation. John is a marvelous, friendly, helpful host, and he and staff member William keep the units clean, fresh, and comfortable. The daily service was more than we needed, but they always checked and offered. John accommodated our requests and went out of his way to be sure we had everything we needed. He even ordered a couple of beach chairs so we could sit in the shade at the beach! (YES! This beach has shade, some benches, and calm, peaceful, protected waters. Whether first thing in the morning or later in the day, it makes for a delightful refreshing swim!) The location directly across from the beach and at most a 5-minute walk to shops, the wharf, and restaurants, was perfect! Some have mentioned the bar next door. Even though it looks like a fun, local place, we knew there was live music some nights, and we wondered if noise would be a problem. At least from our location in #3, noise was NEVER an issue. It was perfectly quiet. We had a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette (no oven or freezer) (unit #3). The bed is very comfortable, the area is spacious, the basics for cooking and dining are provided. (I should note that we didn’t really cook at all, but we brought things in for breakfasts, lunches, and snacks and ate there frequently.) There was a comfy sitting area for reading, doing projects, playing games, enjoying wine and cheese, or watching TV. The decor was simple and tasteful. For us, comfort trumps decor, so we weren’t looking for high-end interior design. Furnishings included a kitchen table with chairs, a coffee table in the sitting room, sofa, day bed, small patio table and chairs on the little deck, plus a fantastic view balcony patio overlooking the bay for shared use (which makes up for the fact that the unit’s deck faces the parking spots). Other shared amenities include washers, dryers, clothesline, ice. Some things that make me especially happy: lots of storage (closets, drawers) to unpack everything, ample towel racks and hooks for wet linens, beach towels, bathing suits, shelves in the bathroom to organize toiletries, plenty of outlets for charging phones, laptop, etc. These are little touches that so many places lack and that greatly enhanced the convenience and enjoyment of our stay. While most guests were there for one night to a few nights, we would definitely recommend it for a short or longer stay and hope to return for 1-2 months again!

Very Good
GGuest UserThis is one motel where first impressions can be wrong. Walking into the apartments they can appear a bit stark and functional. However, they have a reasonably equipped kitchen, they are clean (serviced daily), spacious, quiet at night and can quickly be made to feel like home for a few days ... there was even fresh milk in the fridge for us when we arrived. Hosts are lovely. Top tip for any folks from the UK - avoid the Gumboot tea sachets ... they are not Yorkshires finest! From the Marlin, it's a very easy walk down to the various bars and restaurants along the waterfront as well as being a good base for going on trips. The pool, located in the corner of the carpark, is well maintained and ideal for letting children burn off some energy. We enjoyed our stay at the Marlin Court Motel and would recommend it to others.
TThobbsChobbsWe booked this as it looked to be good value for money and close to town. We also really liked how honest the room advertisement was, as we booked the 'petite studio' so we knew to expect a small room and not to take lots of luggage (thanks to the honest advertising). When we arrived we were blown away by the friendly and warm welcoming. Everyone that worked here was SO LOVELY and kind to us, it really made for an awesome experience. We even got upgraded to a much larger room for our 3 night stay which was incredibly generous! Our room felt very clean, the bed was comfortable and it was really well equipped. Every part of this motel demonstrates the passion the wonderful owners have for their region and trade. We have stayed a lot of places this summer and because of the wonderful humans here, Edelweiss was definitely our favourite :)
