Best New Haven Hotels

I loved our stay at Surate Bay Lodge, it was an absolute gem during our time in the Catlins and a highlight of our South Island holiday. Quirky accommodation right on the edge of a wild and woolley stretch of coast. A short stroll through the back garden takes you onto the waters edge of an inlet and after a couple of minutes walk along the beach we discovered slumbering sea lions. Loved it. Will remember Ester's friendly welcome, her 22 girls (hens), coffee cart with transistor radio at the gate. The lodge was clean and had a lovely homely a**osphere. Kitchen and lounge nice cosy spaces to relax in with views out to the inlet and surf beyond. Free range eggs were lovely. Would definitely stay again. Sue and Lisa

We had been held up with flights and did not get there till nearly midnight. The owners had left the key in the door, lights on and a lovely note welcoming us and giving us a map of the area, tide times for the next day and wifi password. Throughout our stay they were friendly and helpful with advice and local knowledge. Would definitely stay there again.

Loved this place! You never know with small town New Zealand what motels will be like, but I was so impressed with this motel. Beautiful view of the beach and nugget point, lovely service, clean and tidy with great facilities. Would love to stay again!
