I am reading reviews saying, the view isn't enough....... and do you know what, it was for us! What a spot!!!! We splashed out on a suite with a fjord view as there were 3 of us travelling; myself, my husband + my daughter of 24 years. When we stepped out onto the balcony we were blown away. We planned on walking during our stay and the walks available off the doorstep are amazing too. We stayed 2 nights + were very lucky with the weather + so were able to swim in the fjord. The sauna looking out over the fjord was on my list of things to do + it did not disappoint. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly, helpful + quite lovely. Breakfast choices were perfect + I really enjoyed the food in the evening. Only slight negative here was that we had paid for a room with dinner included + so had a set menu, which had soup, then a choice of 2 mains + 2 puddings. However, the choice was exactly the same both nights + I feel like there should have been a change of options. The grounds at the front of the hotel offer various areas to sit + enjoy the view; there are sunbeds which we did use given our luck with the weather; internally there are so many nooks and crannies with fabulous rooms to sit in in large groups or smaller intimate ones. We stayed in 5 different locations on our trip to Norway + they all could have done with a bit of TLC but I honestly do not know how you could stay in a location like this and not beam from ear to ear. LOVED IT!!!
The hotel is the best hotel we have ever stayed in in the Norwegian Fjords, with large rooms and balcony views. There is free parking. There are few big hotels around, there are some homestays, there are few commercial facilities, and it is not convenient to buy food. You can buy them at the gas station store before you go. The environment is very quiet and there are very few people around at night. Breakfast is good, you should order a meal, otherwise you should eat instant noodles. It is also convenient to bring children, there is a triple room, a small bed in the small single room, there is no door.
First, the location is beautiful. The hotel has that old time feel where you can imagine wealthy Edwardian ladies visiting the hotel and feeling very superior. The dining room looks out over a lawn and lake that just adds to this feeling. The town surrounding it is cute (with a great bakery/chocolate shop) and there's some hiking trails that are beautiful. The breakfast is decent. Not the best we've had in Norway but certainly not the worst. The rooms are LARGE. At least, our family room was. Huge floor plan with plenty of room for five people to stretch out. Now for the bad: The Edwardian feel continues into the elevator which is slow and small. It's easier to just take the stairs. There's often linen carts in the hallways -- I guess there's few places to store them. The bed was CREAKY. Like, if I moved the slightest bit, it groaned as if it were about to collapse. I didn't get good sleep because of it. And I was in the ”master bed.” The other beds weren't as loud and my kids didn't complain about their comfort but they were also severely jet lagged. I'd suggest you skip dinner here but there's just not many other places to eat either. We sat and then learned it was a buffet. Ok, fine. A buffet that cost roughly $65 a person. Yikes. And the buffet was pretty good but not that value...not even in Norway. Would I come back? Yes. The views in the area are great. But I'd really look elsewhere to eat.
Very Good
