We stayed for a week and loved it. We were able to rent bikes in Edam and spent the week biking around the area. The breakfasts were plentiful. We ate one night at the hotel's restaurant - the food was amazing. For dinner reservations are needed, but you then have the table for the evening and can have a leisurely meal. As others have said, the rooms aren't big, but that is because they are rooms that were built as part of a home- not as a purpose-build hotel. The room was clean, had everything we needed, had a lovely view of the canal that borders two sides of the hotel. We were able to have the window open to let in the fresh breeze, but the room looked like it would be warm and cozy during cold weather. The staff and owners were warm, friendly, and very gracious. We didn't have a car, but took the local bus from Amsterdam's Central train Station to Edam's bus station which is a few short blocks from the hotel. If you bring a car, there are a few nearby parking options. We saw other travelers with kids and/or pets.
Picturesquely located and quiet hotel. There is no elevator, so it is not always easy for the elderly to reach the t****th floor with the rotating staircase. Directly at various bus stops and parking at the door. Nice and clean room, but noisy as this hotel is located on a noisy bridge and traffic frequently passes there at night. Breakfast was provided (not too much but everything was provided) and was arranged by a gentle, friendly, pleasant and helpful woman. Wendy: BIG kudos! My and Mama's birthdays were also the day after each other and Wendy provided a nicely decorated table and 2 beautiful bouquets of tulips that we enjoyed at home for a week afterwards. In short: we often think back to it with many wonderful memories…
We have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel, and our experience was terrible. The hotel is having extensive refurbishment works done , which appear to have run over into the start of the tourist season that attracts people from all over the world wanting to see the gardens and amazing bulb displays at Keukenhof, in addition to the attractions in and around Volendam itself. We went with an organised coach trip from the UK so did not get to deal with the hotel direct. Apart from the building work that was ongoing, with the usual noise and dust you would expect when you are sharing the hotel with builders and decorators, the view from our room was none existent, just a wall about 2-3 mtr's away from our bedroom window, with a bit of sky at the top. If I had booked the room direct with the hotel I would have visited reception and insisted on moving rooms. Maybe the hotel has different room rates for rooms with views and without views, and if you are considering staying there I would ensure you investigate this before you book. Breakfast and dinner was included in our trip cost, but our dinner offered no choices, other than take it or leave it, and after our first nights experience we decided to leave it and paid to have dinner out on the 2nd night. Breakfast was a fairly chaotic affair with a long wait for a cup of tea or coffee served by one member of staff from a single machine, in fairness to the staff they seemed to be learning on the job with little instruction or help. Hopefully the builders will finish and leave and a decent level of service will return, but I can't recommend this hotel currently based on our recent experience, I've added some photos to highlight the issues raised.
I spent one night in Monnickendam for business and was recommended this hotel by locals. I'm very familiar with The Netherlands and know the whole country, from North to South. Rather than staying in Amsterdam I preferred opting for the cosy atmosphere of a Dutch village and wasn't disappointed. The hotel hosts a one-starred Michelin restaurant, therefore I suggest to book the whole experience. Parking wise is problematic as there are roadworks that make the access to the parking quite complex to explain. But parking in this time of the year is free so just get the chance to have a stroll in the city centre. The hotel doesn't have elevator: for those who carry a hold luggage just be aware. Personnel is lovely and welcoming, very chatting and friendly. The hotel amenities are in line with the XVII Century history of the building, but for a business trip is complicated, not enough plugs in the room, lighting is not well placed, there is no space at all on the bedside table and no space for the hold luggage. There is a closet indeed, but for a couple staying I'm wondering how can fit all in. I appreciate is a historical building but a few little improvements are encouraged. I would definitely come back.
When I checked in, the owner kindly explained how to use the hostel.
There is a free hair dryer in the bath, and there are about five of them, which is convenient.
There is a locker room that you can use for free. The owner also kindly explains how to set the PIN code.
The rooms have curtains to ensure privacy. You can hear noise, but if you use earplugs or earphones, it's not a problem.
It is a little far from Amsterdam Central Station, but
I think it's a good idea to plan to arrive early and check what time the train is. I left late and had trouble with the few trains. If you use the bus, I don't think you need to worry about this.
Overall, it was a great stay.

We had previously stayed at RCN Vakantiepark Toppershoedje - Ouddorp for a week. From the cleanliness this was much better. We had to remove some hair and vacuum the apar**ent again. The toilet in the bathroom had to be disinfected because it wasn't really clean. The worst thing was the air conditioning. It was moldy on the inside and we couldn't use it. The older lady at the reception seems very arrogant. A pity. The younger lady makes up for it. Unfortunately, there is only a simple vending machine where you can buy sweets and water. Ice is still available at reception, but it closes at odd hours. That's not enough, especially when the restaurant is closed. That was a pity too. The swimming pool is good. But plates are already coming loose. Also the playground is not nice and is very simple. All in all, the houses are well furnished and the region is great. Value for money could be better.
