Spent two days at the Surfeel Hotel, Wakkanai in early February 23. It is a short walk from Wakkanai rail station and well placed to reach most of the town easily on foot. Well I say easily, the snow was incredibly high in the streets and sidewalks so obviously the right clothing and footwear is essential! We had a lovely room overlooking the sea with a big picture window. We could spend hours watching the changing conditions which moved through heavy snow to sunshine back to snow in minutes throughout most of our stay. The old infrastructure from submarine pens has now gone but the covered archway stretches out to form one side of the harbour just beyond the hotel. We ate out in town both nights we were in Wakkanai - not a reflection on the hotel offering but just part of our normal routine to explore and experience other things. We did try and get a drink one night in the rooftop bar but found it closed for the season. We managed to get a couple of beers in the restaurant on the ground floor but they kicked us out at 9pm as they were closing! That said staff throughout the hotel were charming and helpful as ever. Breakfast was pretty good. The offering was dominated by Japanese specialities as you would more than expect with limited western alternatives but the croissant, coffee and eggs were all good. We tried a variety of Japanese dishes and they were pretty good as well. The temperature in the restaurant was about 30C and just felt unhealthy. We were the only people in there but the Japanese obsession with anti-COVID measures is very tiresome and masks were required as were gloves whilst getting your food on a tray from the buffet. At least we didn’t have a pathetic little plastic screen placed between us like we did at our hotel in Sapporo! We knew the Japanese would be masked up - they often were even before COVID - but come on, time and life have moved on! All-in-all a very good hotel and option for stay in Wakkanai especially with a sea-view room on a higher floor. Well done Surfeel Hotel and thank you.
Looking at the old, but in the relatively remote town of Wakkanai, it is quite good, the basic facilities are complete, and the style bathrobe. It is not far from the Wakkanai Station, and it is about 700 meters walk. The nearby convenience store may have to go to Senkomato in Wakkanai Station. After all, things are still there. Overall, there is no one at the front desk. I can only go to the service staff for help. I recommend using Japanese.
There is a free curry service for dinner from Monday to Thursday. Lucky to hear this story on Monday's stay. The staff was polite in the dining room, and curry was also more satisfying than I imagined. The hot spring was also pleasant. The parking lot is in front of the hotel and there is a large parking lot behind it, so you can rest assured.
Close to JR Minami Wakkanai station and next to Wakkanai police station. When I saw ”Chico ―”, it was Wakkanai port. I looked for it on the net and booked it. Is it a business hotel that approached the city hotel a little? 8750 yen with 2 meals in the morning and evening, and a discount of rubu was used from there. Use ”new” (dinner) and ”orchid” (breakfast) and two restaurants in the building. Cars are parked on the plane around. Air conditioning remains heating setting prohibited from change. Relatively high temperature, from sunny to cloudy, windy day, windows were not open and a little steamed. Winter in the snowstorm will be hard. Wakkanai is a 'big city' that finally arrives in the wilderness. It is about 5 km north of Jr Wakkanai station, about 5 km south of route 40, about 5 km south of East and West, about 40000 people, flat residential areas, and still a large city. I entered the national route 238 and went out on route 232, but it seemed to be a very valuable experience. The most interesting thing was route 238 from hamatonbetsu to Wakkanai via Cape soya. There are small and small fishing villages in the fields and terrace without even farms, but the buildings of any village were newly built. I heard it was scallop palace. Is it like this when shellfish?
Facilities: Advantages: The room is large and can open two 28-inch suitcases; the windows of the room can be opened, the outside is shaded by trees and the air is fresh. Disadvantages: The toilet cannot be electrified so there is no cleaning device. The bed is soft.
Health: Good 👍 Japan's consistent standard.
Environment: It is more than ten minutes away from JR Wakandai Station and bus terminal. If the navigation may appear, the name of the Sheden Hotel may be the KITO Hotel, because the two names on the hotel wall are available. There are convenience supermarkets such as Rosen and shell removal business in the surrounding area; there is a barbecue seven or eight minutes walk.
Service: The female staff at the front desk was very warm and thoughtful. When it rained, they took the umbrella and asked if we needed it.
The hotel is good for a temporary transfer during the trip.
This was a last minute booking as I cancelled the booking for another hotel by mistake and did not realise until I was at the other hotel itself.
Dormy Inn is very convenient, less than 8 minutes to JR Wakkanai.
The rooms are quite small and sparsely furnished but still comfortable for our family.
Enough power plugs all over the room but no UDB charging points so remember to bring your travel adapters.
What the room lacks in amenities, the facilities more than make up for it.
There is FREE ramen every night from 9.30pm at the hotel restaurant, so we simply bought a some food from the seica mart at JR wakkanai and eat before the restaurant opens at night.
On top of this, there is of course the roof top onsen. We like in particular the outdoor part of the onsen where you can enjoy the snow falling onto you while you soak in the pool.
After the onsen bath you can help yourself to the free ice cream outside the men's and ladies' onsen.
There is also a small manga library between these 2 onsens too.
We loved our stay here and will be glad to stay here again if we go to wakkanai again.
This time I worked near Minami Wakkanai Station and used it to make a nearby hotel. The exterior and lobby of the hotel feel old, but the rooms were renovated and very clean and clean. I didn't use it this time, but there is also a large communal bath. There are many restaurants near the hotel and it is convenient to eat out. For breakfast, he has multiple simmered dishes and many local dishes, so I am very satisfied. I talked about the oldness, but in a sense there are many atmospheres of the Showa era, and there is nostalgia, so it is an inn that I would definitely recommend to everyone.
Use because the surrounding hotel was full. Wakkanai hotels were not suitable for one person travel, and there was a hotel that could stay at a reasonable price. The guest house was new and the facilities were substantial because it opened in June 2020. Also, the conversation with the friendly owner was played, and it became a pleasant stay.

Cape Sōya
BBenny_traveler1122Magnificent scenery! Matching with the snow, the cape is just divine. Make sure you visit the shop to get a certificate of arriving the most north point of Japan. You can see Russia from there.
Wakkanai North Breakwater Dome
Vviviangood03Walk north from the JR station for 7-8 minutes. You can walk up to the west side of the breakwater and look out at the sea, which will make you feel relaxed and happy. The shape of the breakwater is also unique. There should be warships parked in the port next to it. It is very pleasant to walk around when you have time.
Wakkanai Park
Vviviangood03Close to the North Breakwater, but on the mountain, standing on the top of the mountain, in front of you is the endless sea, at your feet is the small town of Wakuni.. There are ice and snow gates, lighthouses, windmills, etc. on the top of the mountain. You can climb and stroll. It is also connected to the Wakamai Forest Park. Unfortunately, when we went, the snow was not turned off, and many roads were blocked. It is the highest point in the town of Wakamai.
Cape Noshappu
Vviviangood03The view is wide and boundless, the sea is blue, so beautiful! But the wind is very strong. The dolphin sculpture is very creative, and the photo taken at sunset is very good. Take the city bus No. 1 or No. 31 and go north to the end.
Wakkanai Centennial Memorial Tower
Vviviangood03The highest point on the mountain in Wakone Park is windy. There is a sculpture at the door. There are also some monuments and sculptures to commemorate the personnel in the Battle of Judea. You can buy tickets under the memorial tower. It's just that we went on vacation.
Gate of Ice and Snow - Sakhalin Islanders Memorial Monument
Vviviangood03After climbing up the Wakonei Park, stand at the gate of ice and snow overlooking the sea and the city of Wakone. The scenery is pleasant. There are some sculptures around. There are lighthouses on the back of the mountain. The sculpture itself is like that. We don't have historical emotions to see, so there are not so many associations.
Hokumon Shrine
Vviviangood03Very small shrine, next to two emperors to set up a memorial pine tree. It should be quite important for the residents of the village, because the name of the shrine is provided in the visit. Climb up a trail on the road to the park. You can see it soon.
Wakkanai Lighthouse
MMary_Kiky_ZhuWakakah is an important lighthouse on the road. Here you can enjoy the magnificent sunset view.
