Search Your Matera Hotels

The rooms are old caves modified to hotel standards and are quaint but comfortable with a small fridge, Sky TV (little in English) and reasonable AC. We enjoyed four nights with friends in Matera. The hotel is well placed, surrounded by restaurants in the heart of the 'Sassi' - Old Town. There are tables and chairs outside the 'Hobbit' style rooms to enjoy an al fresco breakfast or late night drink. There is no bar and reception is closed by 10pm, so you will need to be prepared with beers and drinks. Some reception staff only speak Italian or very limited English. There is no parking at the hotel or for non Matera residents in the Sassi. We found parking at 'Damascus Parking' (details provided by the hotel), was reasonable at 20 Euros per day with a shuttle to and from the hotel. Be sure to organise your return shuttle in good time especially if leaving early. The rooms have a portable dehumidifier which would be well advised to use. If you are not familiar with these boxes on wheels ask the hotel to explain. The access to the hotel and all of the old town is by steps and a labyrinth of paths which are smooth and can be slippery. We advise god trainers rather than flip flops for getting around. We found Matera a charming adventure built in a higgeldy piggeldy warren that is firmly focused on tourism. Three days are more than enough, more would be stretching everything on offer.

Silenzioso, pulizia della stanza maniacale, molto apprezzata da parte nostra, accoglienza da parte dello staff della ricezione e sala colazione molto cordiale, dispensatore di ottimi suggerimenti per visitare la città, ricercati i prodotti per la colazione, per i salutisti come me, suggerirei di aggiungere un estrattore di succo di verdure, sarebbe una colazione al top, data anche la presenza di molti turisti stranieri. A special experience. Take a taxi for 10 Euros from the long-distance bus station to the hotel. The driver took the initiative to call the hotel staff to help carry the luggage because there are steps to go up. The hotel maintains the most primitive accommodation conditions, mainly lighting by candles. There is no TV. The hot water was out of condition and was not repaired for a while. As compensation, we delayed the check out and left Matera at night. The breakfast was great. The front desk is also very welcoming. Help us boil hot water, print boarding passes, and call a taxi. There are many cave hotels in the area, this one is very authentic and high-quality.

What a find! We stayed for our 30th Anniversary and we were treated royally (thank you, we really appreciated all you did for us, you went above and beyond). We’ve never stayed in a hotel like it, the location was fantastic, the rooms were built in caves and had everything you wished for. The breakfast was outstanding and you ate whilst a pianist played in the corner of the room. All the staff were attentive and friendly, arranging tour guides and recommending great restaurants ensuring a memorable stay. A true haven of comfort and elegance, highly recommended for discerning travellers!

The hotel is located in the ancient city of Matera. The hotel's lobby, restaurant, and guest rooms are all designed with the original characteristics of the cave. When I open the wooden windows in the room, I can see the landmark architectural landscape of the ancient cave city. The room is fully heated. If it is time If enough, you can make an appointment for a SPA. It is very convenient to go out and visit the ancient city.

This is a very beautiful small hotel right next to the Duomo. The location is perfect for exploring amazing Matera. The reception staff is exceptional. The room was great with lights along the very tall ceiling. The breakfast room very nice with a large selection of items. We parked our car at their other property outside the old town and they picked us up with the hotel shuttle. It was easy and convenient. The hotel staff made many suggestions for sightseeing and dinner and arranged for a James Bond tour for us. The only downside was that the room was cold and the heating system was not able to warm it up. They told us the the ceiling being so hight the heat get to the ceiling and the room stays cold. The first night I froze all night but the second night I asked for a duvet and a space heater and it solved the problem. We didn't use the spa or the on-siite restaurant because we were too tired but it looked great. We would definitely return to this hotel if back in Matera.
