4.4/5
Excellent
Kirkjufell Guesthouse was a great place to stay for one night as we drove around Iceland. The guesthouse is basic but but very clean and comfortable. Our room was warm and we appreciated the Netflix being included. The location of the guest house is just outside of Grundarfjorour which is a small and isolated town. The location is great as it has a really nice outlook of the local countryside. The guesthouse has cooking facilities which is important to know because there is no breakfast served. There is a small supermarket in Grundarfjorour to buy supplies but it has short opening hours. There is just one restaurant in the town serving dinner and the food was OK. For breakfast the next morning there was just one guest house in the town that we had to drive to and the breakfast was very basic. My recommendation would be to plan ahead a make use of the kitchen facilities for breakfast at least. The lady who manages the guest house was lovely and speaks perfect English.
This is a wonderful place to stay in an absolutely enchanting town! Grundarfjörður is far better than the guidebooks make it out to be. And the Old Post Office is really the perfect spot. The rooms aren't big but they're well appointed and the shower is wonderful! It's quiet and the blackout curtains do a great job in the summer. From this perfect vantage point, it's a wonderful and easy walk to the base of the Kirkjufell Mountain and the delight waterfalls. In town, there are two amazing coffee shops (Valeria which is run by a wonderful Colombian expat and the bookstore/cafe Graena Kompaniið which is run by two wonderful Icelandic women). Dinner at Bjargarsteinn Mathus is first rate. And, you can't miss the great studio of the sculptor and artist, Ludvik Karlsoon. Really, this town is a delight. We spent two nights there - one very full day - and we did not regret it. It's still coming to me in my dreams long after!
MMicrobe kaiMy wife and I stayed in a room on the 2nd floor, full of large rooms, and a cubicle similar to the living room, and the sofa is a sofa bed, so if there are 3-4 people, it is no problem; you can see the church directly from the window.
The room is completely slippers, very clean!
The kitchen on the 1st floor has complete ovens, gas stoves and other kitchen equipment to use!
There is a parking lot nearby and parking is very convenient.
NNICA great house, at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, super beautiful.
Driving to Church Hill for 5 minutes, I saw the northern lights at night,
The house is very clean and can cook. I also saw a rice cooker.
