Ten years ago, we stayed at the Glenlossie and it was one of the best B&Bs we've ever experienced in Scotland. I gave it top marks on Trip Advisor and that's a rarity! The owners were friendly, the breakfast was superb and the place had a professional and business-like air about it. So, thinking we'd head to D&G for a few days recently we thought to book again. In the interim the place has been taken over by the larger Caledonian Hotel next door and is now effectively an annexe. It goes without saying that the former ambience of the establishment is dead and gone. There was litter in the car park and old chairs and junk in the passage outside our ground floor bedroom window which we couldn't open for long because of the cigarette smoke emanating from who knows who although the constant coughing through the thin wall would suggest our neighbour was the culprit. The bathroom ceiling was peeling, probably due to the lack of an extractor and the sink lacked a plug. We bought one in a shop. To be fair, the room was attended to every day and coffee/tea/soap etc replenished (not the plug). You get the feeling no one is around to ”manage” the place. The front door is always on the snib. Mail lay about the porch uncollected. Breakfasts are now served at the big house and that's it. The buffet is average and the porridge wouldn't win an Oscar nomination any longer. It's a shame as the young East European lassies in charge are doing their best. I know covid has hit the hotel trade hard. Staff shortages are a common feature now and it's a wonder that places like this can stay open at all. in the Caledonian's case the funeral trade keeps them going, I gather. Good luck to them. But I think the use of the name Glenlossie for the ghostly building next door is a bit of a nonsense and quite sad in the circumstances.

The hotel room is decorated like a KTV. The location of the hotel is very remote. It does not go into the city. The road to the hotel is blocked by traffic and causes a tire blowout. The road to the hotel is really difficult. The service staff at the hotel are very enthusiastic. The breakfast at the hotel is average. It is generally not recommended to book if you don’t have a car. It is expensive and inconvenient. My friend insisted on making a reservation, but had no choice. Anyway, the way to the hotel felt like driving into a forest. There was no one on the way and the trees were all gloomy. It was difficult to get in. The hotel didn't look like a castle to me, it just kind of looked like it. Not great value for money, other things are fine. The hotel room is really big in the UK. It also has a bathtub and a big toilet. However, the decoration is hard to say like a KTV. It is too big and looks a bit scary. The lobby looks okay during the day, and the hotel entrance is also good. It’s really scary at night~
In the heart of Robert Burns history is this little piece of history. I would advise you to take the walk around the grounds following the crystal clear lake around to the hermitage where the poet penned some of his famous lines. Previous reviews I read worried about my room being tired in decor but found it well furnished & well kept. Yes the building is old it's a historic place so some floors are uneven etc . There is fishing on the river if that's something you would like to do. Amazing nature around the grounds unspoilt area. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and the food was lovely. Would definitely return, we were booked in Hawthorn with a lake view. The only thing if your a light sleeper is you are above the games room if people are playing pool at night. Also if you need a socket take an extension by bed lead (1 cpap user) .
Stayed one night to break up the long journey home from Ireland. I stayed in room 5 overlooking the garden and a lovely church. Coffee making facilities were very good, with nice buiscuits and chocolate mints. I slept with the window open and was not disturbed by any noise. This is an old listed building, and the room looked a little tired, but I was not there long enough for this to really matter. Unfortunately I did not find the bed to be very comfortable, but you can not please every guest, and it is all down to personal preference. Breakfast was included and ordered the night before. A lovely young lady brought my breakfast, which was very good, and set me up for the rest of my journey. Would I stay here again? Certainly.

First things first.....it's not the Ritz but for what I paid via Agoda , probably the best value for money I've spent for an overnight stay.I travelled to Bolton to buy a car for my wife and needed an overnight stay before heading home.Reviews I read to be fair were mostly accurate ....in need of a bit of TLC but my room was clean....I had a great and comfortable sleep.....in the morning, breakfast was exceptional...I just wanted somewhere overnight for a rest etc..... thoroughly enjoyed it.... very friendly service and staff.

Caerlaverock Castle
TTodemmyKarlavok Castle (Caerlaverock Castle), located at the intersection of Scotland and England, is a triangular castle with moats built in the 13th century, and like many other castles at the junction, it has witnessed bloody territorial disputes. The castle was the home of the Maxwell family until the 17th century when it was abandoned. It also witnessed the territorial struggle between England and Scotland. The Kerlezhek castle is now in ruins but still magnificent. There is an intriguing exhibition of siege war, and the medieval siege tools are rebuilt for tourists to visit.
Dino Park at Hetland
MM32***23The dinosaur park is worth coming! The dinosaur controllers have no resistance at all... The children will also like it very much. The perfect combination of sound and photoelectricity here has completely created a Jurassic Park in technology, which is very interesting! The scenery is also good, the greening is very good, and the infrastructure such as the bathroom is also very complete.
Robert Burns Centre
Ccoo***anThe Pence Center (Robert Burns Centre) is located in an old factory on the Neet River, and videos introduce Pence's life and creation manuscripts, and tell the origins of Pence and Dunfermline in the 1890s. The theme of the exhibition includes wildlife and beautiful coastal scenery of Salway.
WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre
Ccoo***anWWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre It’s really a very good safari park. There is no annoying animal performance. Only the animals walk aimlessly. They are not afraid. They are very free and look very comfortable.
Mabie Farm Park
Ccoo***anStation Park Meibi Farm Park is nearby. It is very close and the area is very large. This farm has alpacas and small pigeons. It is very interesting. You can feed under the guidance of the staff. It is very fun. ~
Sweetheart Abbey
IIrene_WeeSpoonA monastery of great old, built in the early 13th century. A lady built it in memory of her husband. After her death, the person who took over the monastery named it in memory of them. Like many other medieval buildings, there are only cemeteries and ruins left.
