Best Villeneuve-les-Avignon Hotels

When we first decided to spend a few days in Avignon, we began looking at hotels within the walled city but could not find one to our liking, with character and availability. Once we expanded our search to the other side of the river, and Villeneuve-les Avignon, we discovered a quieter area and this amazing Hotel de l'Atelier - it was a true gem! With the idiosyncrasies of any 300 year old building (sometimes crooked floors and off kilter doors) it also has all the historic charm of a building of that era. If this isn't your thing, by all means book a room at the Holiday Inn for twice the price and pretend you are in any city anywhere in the world. But if you want to feel like you are truly in Provence, this is the perfect spot! True, the hotel does not have an elevator, but it does have staff that did not let us carry any bags upstairs to the third floor ourselves...or downstairs again when we left! True, the hotel fixtures are a bit dated but oh the history that shines through!! The important things worked with no problems: modern plumbing, air conditioning, cleaning services... We have never felt as welcomed in a large luxury hotel, as we did at Hotel de l”Atelier! And let me add that the overall pervading fragrance of this hotel is butter!!! They (and by they I mean the owner and almost all the staff who work there) bake all their own amazing breakfast creations (apple tarts, croissants, coffee cake...about seven or eight different things every morning) from scratch daily!!!! Cappuccino? No problem! Perfect soft boiled eggs? They got you!! After spending several days wandering the walled city, taking in the history, we were always relieved to return to this sanctuary in Villeneuve-les-Avignon. We will always be happy we made this choice and hope to return one day!

Brilliant 4 night stay at the Maison Orsini’s truly special accommodations high above Avignon with stunning views of the Palais des Pâpes across the Rhone River and Mont Ventoux. Folco Pisani is the warm and generous host, whose fluent English was a gift. We learned that Folco’s grandfather bought this 15th century Cardinal Orsini’s Palace in 1947, which Folco’s family has both lived in and thoughtfully renovated over the decades since. There is a pool surrounded by an exquisite garden area across the street next to a private locked parking area. We stayed in the Suite Panoramique—a very large bedroom that easily accommodated a king sized bed, a desk, chair, and ample areas for luggage. The bath has a grand built-in tub with another large window. The suite also includes a side room with a desk and couch that can be closed off with a door if needed. All of the rooms we saw were lovely and well maintained. They surround a luscious courtyard with old trees shading another colorful garden of many floral varieties. There are tables and chairs that offer calming, yet breathtaking views. We enjoyed wonderful breakfasts in a dining room straight out of the middle ages. Folco brings freshly baked sweets daily from a local boulangerie like croissants and pastries, breads, various cheeses, yogurt, four or five bowls of freshly cut fruits and orange juice as well. He made the best American coffee of our two week trip in France! Villeneuve les Avignon is a 9 minute walk from Maison Orsini and includes a small but excellent choice of restaurants, and the fascinating and beautiful Saint-André Abby and award winning gardens which are well worth visiting. You can walk down to Bus #5 which takes you across the bridge to Avignon, where you can explore the historic sites and local restaurants and stores without struggling to park a car. But the best part of Maison Orsini is Folco’s attentiveness, kindness, and willingness to be helpful in every way possible. He created such a relaxing and comfortable environment that we chose to stay in Villeneuve for all of our dinners, several which Folco arranged, and an extra day that had been planned for side trips elsewhere. Could not recommend more highly!

Great hotel on good location with fantastic breakfast. Hotel is just up the hill in a lovely small town of Villeneuve just across the river from Avignon. The small town is perfect with restaurants and a small grocery store. We brought our bikes which was a perfect setup. The Hotel is beautiful set up with a very spacious approach, multiple ground floor common rooms, a massive garden and a huge pool area (which was closed due to cold temperatures in April). Breakfast was really good, not sure what the other reviews were complaining about.

I did a good amount of research before finding this hotel. My priority is since this was in the middle of the most horrible heatwave was air-conditioning. This hotel fully delivered. While it was 42° outside for 104°F. My room was nice and cool the entire time. My second most important criteria was strong Wi-Fi. This hotel offered very good speed. It is fiber net work therefore about 100 MB per second at the time of this writing. It allowed me to do my work with no problem. The room was nice and clean. Most of all it was very functional. Last, but not least this hotel has the NICEST staff. Lovely conversations over breakfast. Guillaume speaks English perfectly although since I speak French our conversations were mostly in French. I highly recommend this hotel.

A warm welcome to our arrival by Rosalie who was waiting for us with a pleasant refreshment in this beautiful special hotel from the 18th in the heart of the old town Our very spacious room in modern decor with view of the palace of the papa seduced us with its delicate little attentions sucking breakfast !! This hotel is located within the city walls pedestrianise area but is assessable by car as the entrance to the car park from the main road. Very close to all major tourist location. The bed is comfortable with a decent shower pressure. The breakfast is good with a good variety of hot and cold food selections.

I had a wonderful time at Hotel Mignon over my 6 night stay! The hotel is very conveniently located by the Avignon Centre and Avignon TGV train stations, making day trips very easy. The room was clean, beautiful, historical, and very comfortable. The front desk staff was very kind and knowledgeable, and then whole experience felt wonderful and very safe as a solo female traveler. The best option if you travel to Avignon!

I was stranded in Marseilles this past June, missed my connecting train to Toulouse. All train seats sold out that day for Toulouse and 2 days for Paris. Rooms were sold out in Marseilles, except for 3, ranging from €600 to €3600, so I had to leave. Chose Avignon and got one of the last seats on the train. Saw Palais du Papes online but unable to book because of internet problems, so I took a leap of faith and went there. From the outside it was a bit disappointing but once inside I was greeted by the kindest young man, Herkmit (sorry if his name is misspelled) who helped me get settled in and assisted me with booking a train to Paris. He took such good care of me, and all of his guests, and I cannot say enough good things about him. My room was very clean and large, the largest hotel room I’ve ever been in, and I had a lovely view of the Palais. I’m a senior woman who traveled solo and I have never experienced such kindness and respect as I had received from the French people. And it was especially true in Avignon. Thank you Herkmit.

The location is a little bit from the train station, it takes 20 minutes to walk. Really close to the church But it feels like Mercure is everywhere, be careful what goes wrong.
