Maybe the best place to stay in Shangrila. Located just outside the north gate of the old city, in a pretty old courtyard full of flowers. The owners are friendly and can help organize trips and drivers. ( Their English is limited, but but with translation apps communication is easy.) if you’re lucky, you may be able to get the top floor room, with private balcony and view over the old and new city and the “revolutionary martyrs” cemetery that’s right behind the buildings. I plan to stay here again if I return to Shangrila!
