My wife and I Stayed at Franklin Manor for one night on our trip around Tasmania. We were greeted by Lincoln who welcomed us warmly and gave us a tour of this beautiful old historic manor. We were upgraded to the Manor Room which was lovely with its own tiled ensuite, very comfortable bed and beautiful decor. The Manor communal rooms are very heritage and comfortable as is the dining room where we had a very delicious breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful boutique accommodation and highly recommend. Thank you Lincoln for looking after us so well.
We stayed overnight and found this motel had everything we needed. The gentleman that checked me in was extremely pleasant and helpful. Such a lovely touch was turning on the air-conditioner for when we arrived. It is an older building but extremely clean and comfortable and most certainly value for money. Loved the king sized bed! So many little touches like a mini bar, hair dryer, iron and ironing board are much appreciated. I would most definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends.
There was no air conditioning in the room, it rained at night The temperature outside was less than ten degrees, and the three rooms were only heated by an electric heater in the hall. Long-sleeved pajamas could not be worn. It was not cold until it was wearing a wool coat. Now in the local summer, I can't imagine how this house will live in winter. There is no gas stove and oven, only one induction cooker on both ends. The beds and kitchen utensils are very clean and the layout is reasonable. The public laundry room washing machine dryer is very dirty. It feels not as good as other campsites I have lived in. The price is not high, not recommended.
No air conditioner, very cold as there is only a short piece of electrical heater in living room. Both bedrooms don’t have any warmer. Feel cold even wearing long pajamas in summer as it was raining outside. . Can’t imagine how to survive in winter. Bedding and kitchenwares are very clean and layout of the rooms is good. No cooking stoves and oven as shown on pictures , only ceramic stove. Washing machines and dryers in public laundry are very dirty. The staff are friendly and helpful. But I won’t recommend it for its low cost-performance ratio.

The overall consumption in this small town is not low, and the price of a five-star hotel is the condition of the bed and breakfast. It's okay to stop and transfer.
Strahan is located on the Northern end of Macquarie Harbour. Mining and Timber have virtually disappeared and the town now relies on fishing and tourism. Shopping is minimal although an IGA is close by on the start of the road to Queenstown. There are a couple of hotels and restaurants but the main tourist activities are - Macquarie Harbour Catamaran cruise West Coast Vintage Railway to Queenstown The ship that never was mini theatre There are two large catamarans providing 3 hour harbour cruises taking in the Harbour, Sarah Island *former penal colony,” Hells Gate entrance to the harbour, and the Heritage Landing Nature Walk off the Gordon River. Not to be missed. The West Coast Railway brought ore down from Queenstown to the harbour. This is now a fully restored railway providing a scenic tourist trip between the two towns. At this stage damage to the track has limited the trip which now cannot reach Strahan but it is hoped to complete repairs over winter 2023. The ship that never was is a hilarious play about some convicts that escaped from Sarah Island. The play runs nightly in an external setting with tent like rain covering. Definitely need warm clothing. The play uses 2 main actors playing various parts together with a few carefully selected audience members whose ability adds to the hilarity. Again not to be missed.
We previously stayed here many years ago when it first opened. This time we stayed for two nights on 20-21 March 2022 in a Superior Garden Apartment room #18 with a queen and single bed. Car parking is directly outside the room. Our very clean room was large with a kitchenette, small dining table, and all the usual conveniences. It also had a balcony at the back. As a bonus, the room windows open to get some fresh air. Our one issue was that the town water was not working from about 4pm-2am on the second day. Of course this was not the hotel's fault. It was just very inconvenient as it effected half the town. The reception office was a little difficult to locate on when we first checked in - some garden plants are covering up signs. Reception staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Should we ever return to Strahan, we will stay again. Thank you.
