Love this pub, great food, warm service. Simple offering but done really well. Would recommend. Prawn baguette, warm super fresh bread, simple salad, generous. Really nice garden on quiet road - proper country pub. Pricing seems very good, there are cheaper but this was excellent value.

Excellent 4 course Xmas meal, that was very tasty and very filling. Gluten Free food also available on the main menu. Beautiful pub on the outside and inside, with a lovely log fire. The pub is in a small village that is well off the beaten track.

The old fashioned pub ambience is lovely, smell of woodsmoke and low beams were great. This was a Thursday lunchtime, the pub was not full, yet service, although friendly was very slow. Tempura prawns were super. Fish pie very dry and poor, too much mash and very sparse on the fish element, with no sauce visible. And strange to serve it with salad! Liver and bacon excellent, but far too much. So overall, it was disappointing, especially having eaten lunch there previously, and recommended it to friends.

A very wet Wednesday lunchtime visit. Great to see a traditional village pub in a rural area that hasn't been 'Gastro-ised'. You can eat and drink here without having to re-mortgage your property! It isn't closed on a Monday and a Tuesday and has long opening hours that mean you can settle in rather than feel you are lingering for too long. Bar staff were really helpful, food and drink all up to expectations. We intend to come back.

We received a warm, friendly welcome from Jess and the rest of the staff, who catered for our every need and made us feel very much at home. Our room was in a secluded block behind the lovely, old pub, and the pathway there was surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. The full English breakfasts, prepared and served by Sally, were first class. I look forward to staying there again when I next visit the area.

Thank you for making our 70th birthday tea party for 14 perfect-it was a lovely sunny day and the tea was beautifully laid out outside. All the food-sandwiches and scones with cream and jam tasted home-made, fresh and delicious. Tea and coffee flowed and were constantly topped up. Prosecco was served with the cake we brought. The service was excellent. The landlord couldn't have been more helpful in assisting us to arrange this event at a very reasonable price per head.

Charming old pub, almost hidden down a country lane. We had booked a meal here and on arrival were welcomed by friendly staff. Car park was very busy and this place is clearly a very popular spot with the locals. The menu was very good with lots of choice and there was the addition of specials (always good to see) We both had some excellent food...steak slightly underdone, but it didn't affect the enjoyment. The bar is furnished with old church pews and solid tables and chairs and the walls are scattered with old pictures (quite a lot of dogs!) We did enjoy our stop at The Hatchet and would certainly recommend it to others.

I went there for a wild XC ride in the Collingbourne Wood nearby. The rooms were clean and suitable. Clothes hangers tie wrapped to a bar! Very odd. One of two cups in the room had no handle . Also very odd. I love these querky bits in English Inns. The breakfasts and dinners were really good. Definitely recommend staying there. The whole place is very old, popular and well worth a visit. Try the Asahi Japanese rice lager- really nice.

The food is great. We had the stroganoff and lasagne, both veggie versions along with sponge pud with custard and lemon tart. Lovely old thatched pub. Very popular, as busy even on a weekday evening.
