This location is definitely overrated. I was expecting a better experience based on the rating. It is a property needing an update. As one reviewer noted, you can still smell residual cigarette scent. The halls are not well-lit. Our room had furniture that was chipped and stained. There was black mold growth on the window frame. The eggs were obviously made from powder and not very good. On the positive side, the employees were all very pleasant and accommodating. The waffles were very tasty. The bed was comfortable and the towels were plush. I will not stay at this hotel again.

The best experience I've had from my recent Best Western Hotel stays in the past couple years. Thank you to ALL staff at this location. Edgar at the front check in was very polite and customer service oriented. Housekeeping was nice and asked exactly what we wanted to have done to our room. Breakfast was great and so we're the two servers during our stay.

We had called to check in early because my wife wanted to go get her nails done and I wished to stay at the hotel instead. Ms. Chuong at the front desk was exceptionally accommodating and so polite over the phone. Upon check in, Ms. Chuong and Ms. Cecilia greeted me at the front desk, checked me in with no delay, and even gave me a choice of what floor I would like to stay. There were a few toiletry items I was not able to take on the flight and the ladies at the front desk were excellent at getting me what I needed at no extra cost. Once I got to my room I noticed it was extraordinarily updated, and cleaned from top to bottom by Ms. Anna. Do not get me started on how comfortable the beds are and how quiet the hotel is. I could sleep till noon if I am not careful. Overall very satisfied!

Exceptional staff, facilities and stay! I have stayed here on several occasions on business. This time was by far the best. Loews Cornoado took considerable efforts to make sure people felt safe during these Covid times. Staff was both friendly and helpful. Room was great! Overall, a great stay!

I'm giving the Pier South Resort 5 stars, even though there were some issues with their restaurant. I feel like any company can make a mistake, but pay attention to how they resolve it for you. The hotel is very nice with stunning ocean views, and the staff members all were very friendly. Great location - many places of interest are within walking distance. We paid extra for a room with a balcony and ocean view. On the dates we were there, happy hour with drinks and appetizers were served on the rooftop lounge, we just needed to show our room key. On our last morning, we planned to have breakfast on the balcony in our room, watching the ocean. We called the in-room dining number 3 different times between 8:45am and 9am, but the phone was never answered. We called the front desk at 9am and they had room service call us back. Room service said that they were understaffed and we should call back in 90 minutes to place our order. Call back at 10:30am to order breakfast when checkout is 11am?! We only wanted a bagel and yogurt parfait, but I suppose if there is nobody there to bring the food, then it doesn't matter how simple the order was going to be. The room, parking and resort fees made this a very expensive stay, so not being able to enjoy it in the way we planned was very disappointing. On prior day we did eat at the restaurant, then after we finished, waited over 10 minutes for our check and after we said we were going to charge it to the room, that took another 10 minutes. Again, the restaurant Toasted was probably understaffed. I understand that is a common issue with many companies, but keep in mind that this is an expensive resort with expensive fees. I discussed our concerns with management, and received an apology along with a satisfactory resolution. We will try Pier South again someday, but at this time I cannot even say whether or not they actually offer room service.

We're return customers to the 1906 Lodge, and always had a pleasant stay. The staff is still great and helpful! Breakfast and happy hour great, and they provide gluten-free options too! We really like the 1906 because it's a quiet and cozy oasis. However, the difference now is all of the rooms have a portable AC unit and portable heaters, as the main cooling and heating system is broken. We were there in July and the outdoor temps hit 79, and returning to the room at 9pm and our Garden King Spa Room was still 77. Not so cozy, and with the portable AC, not so quiet. Take this into consideration with the amount you'll pay compared to other options.

First and foremost, this is a Hostel not a hotel, if you do not know what a hostel is or have not stayed in one before in the US or outside the country I recommend taking a little time to research so you understand where you will be staying. Having said that, I have stayed in hostels in 7 countries and this place is extremely clean and well run. There is a mix of travelers / visitors and people who are using it as a place until they get something more permanent. Since rent for a place in San Diego starts at the price of this place and goes way up from here, 2000 for a studio to 6000 for a 2 bedroom, this is unsurprising. Each pod is divided off by its own curtain and there are about 7 pods per dorm, Each pod also has it's own corresponding locker which has enough space for everything from a normal regulation carry on bag. I made sure to keep all valuables locked in there when not in the hostel and had no issues and felt safe at all times, I left a few items in my pod on the rack and hooks each day and never saw any evidence of any tampering or the like and when the curtain was drawn I doubt there would be. If you will be staying for any time there is a small communal kitchen space where everyone may make meals. Basic utensils, pots, pans, spices, cutlery and dining ware are all available for use, just do your part and clean up after yourself. If you are going to buy food, use the provided cool or cold storage or locker and be sure to label it. Coffee and Tea were available each morning I was there as well. The communal areas were all very clean and the people sharing them were a mixed bag of humanity and generally all friendly and conversational. I met a few of the regulars who live there and some who have used it when between homes or when coming out to stay for a time and while I would agree some were not people I would hang out with normally none were offensive or threatening and in fact like other hostels I have been in most just want to be accepted as they are and will take you as you come. The staff were pleasant and courteous in all interactions I had with them and gave good advice each time I asked including where to eat, best way to get somewhere, and general conversation. My only complaints have to do with some maintenance issues, some of the fixtures in the bathrooms and especially the showers are showing the wear of a few years of use and minor neglect. Also, the latches on the dorm doors tend to catch and so are very loud and disturbing at night when they thunk to a stop rather than close smoothly and quietly. I have already booked for my next stay in about 2 months and would recommend it to others so long as they understand the communal aspects of staying here.

Very old hotel with dated rooms. The rooms are not good. I had to shift three times, and the front office staff handled the passport carelessly. Won't stay in this property again as I was not impressed with the room quality. Housekeeping is only available every three days—no staff to help to shift the luggage from room to room when I was moved. I booked a bay view room with a balcony, but they provided the first room, which has smelly rooms and no working aircon. Moved to another room without a bay view and, after a night, moved to another room on the eighth floor with a semi-bay view and balcony. Honestly was not impressed with the experience. No free water in the room. Wifi was not the fast.

GGuest UserI am a long term guest here and being away from home can be tough. All the staff are very pleasant and friendly. Alice and Lynette have been absolutely wonderful! They are always ready with warm smiles and greetings, professional and thoughtful, willing to have a brief conversation with anyone to try and make everyone feel welcome. It helps make the tedium of being away a little easier and makes it feel like a home away from home. The hotel overall is super accommodating and nice. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and the added kitchenette is a huge plus. A good quiet, safe place to relax after a long day. The in-house gym is nice, and there's even an outdoor fireplace to sit and relax, especially in the evenings. Definitely a big recommend if you're in the area and looking for a good place to stay.
GGuest UserMy husband and I decided to stay in the Cula Vista area, due to cost effectiveness and close proximity to San Diego. We were there to attend a family member's college graduation in San Diego. First off this hotel may seem a bit out of the way, but the drive to and from San Diego was not bad at all. This hotel offered us great service, upon check in and throughout our three night stay. Our King room was very clean and spacious enough for our basic needs. I only ate the breakfast once and I found it to be good. The hotel is also very close to eateries and shopping strips. I only gave it four stars because whenever we were in our room we could hear a very heavy footed person walking around above us (even in the middle of the night). Overall I recommend this hotel.
BBianca C.So for starters, check in time is 3:00pm, I showed up at 4:15pm, come to find out there was no rooms ready til 1hr and a half later & by the looks of it, my boyfriend and I weren’t the only one that had to deal with this. It was definitely an inconvenience, however they did offer a later check out of 2pm so we took what we could. Now as far the hotel itself, it was very very clean! There was no complains on that end, beautiful! Aside from getting a late room, the hotel met both of our needs. We’ll definitely be recommending & staying again.
GGuest UserWe chose this hotel b/c of the rate. But.. We were pleasantly surprised by the property when we arrived. If you are looking to be in the middle of downtown or a traditional hotel plaza, this isn't the place for you. But, the location is decent for a 1-2 night stay and easy access to San Diego. The Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and effective. We asked for extras, they appeared quickly. The gentlemen that checked us in was super friendly! (I didn't get his name, but he was working the evening of 3/23) What's Near: - Directly Across the Street: .... Tacos el Gordo (amazing!) .... Carl's Jr ... 7-11 ... el Pollo Loco You won't starve nor need any overpriced hotel snacks What do you need to know about the hotel/room? - The hotel is well-appointed and swanky. It gives the vibes of a boutique hotel - the lobby, the fixtures and the decor/details of the room. The room, however, is not large. Again, it is a great option for a solo or couple traveling. And I recommend 1-3 nights max in lieu of the space (if traveling with 2 or more people). - If you are noise sensitive, do not take a room on the front of the hotel. - And if you are a light sleeper, stay on the top floor to avoid hearing people walking and/or talking on your head. Surprise! - The hotel offers a breakfast buffet for about $7 per person. The breakfast is in a small area available via key access. If you have ever had Holiday Inn Express' expanded continental breakfast - its comparable. Definitely work it. NOTE: The hotel has exterior corridors. Its not a big deal, but... just keep that in mind.
SStevewyckoff123I have as well my kids have stayed here many times the staff was great the rooms were fine had no problems and they were very accommodating There is restaurants close a mall down the street is very quiet in the hotel area
