The weather was sunny and having been before we decided to have lunch outside overlooking the river. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. To start it was a hot day and the white wine arrived so warm that we had to request ice be added in order to chill it. The food was mediocre at best with the fish so deep fried and brittle that you couldn’t get it on the fork. The hand cut chips were very hard and not pleasant to eat. All in all it was an expensive but disappointing meal. To top it off, having returned home from a week away we have received a parking fine. This despite using the pay meter and entering the car number plate as instructed. By the looks of it we are not the only people to have experienced this so Parker’s beware. Needless to say, a return visit is not on the cards.

We stayed here for one night. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost courtesy and made to feel very welcome. Our room was clean, well designed and had a beautiful view of the river. The bed was comfy, and there was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed a couple of well made cocktails on the terrace in the sunshine, and then a very nice dinner in the restaurant. The food was flavoursome and well presented, and service was attentive and friendly. Breakfast in the morning was excellent too, with a range of choices. Service was a little slow at times, but this made us feel relaxed. We could also appreciate that the kitchen were cooking everything fresh, and making sure that the food was of quality, not just pre cooked and put on a plate. I would highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant.

My partner and I visited here after a recommendation from "15 mile foodie" a food blogger and a friend of mine. The service and food were spectacular from the minute we stepped into the building. Thank you especially to Harry and Dennis you made our visit very memorable and the food was fabulous. My partner agreed with other reviews that the prawn cocktail was as described, amazing, and to be honest all the food was, there was a choice of potatoes to go with the sea bass and to end with the best bread and butter pudding we have ever had! Compliments to the the chef and all the staff. We will definitely be back and in my opinion it's the only place to eat when coming to Christchurch!

I was excited at the prospect of afternoon tea at the captain's club as I had never been before. Friendly staff showed us to our table. We were offered water, which was fine. After a period of time though, I had to go and ask for a pot of tea. It came in nice sized teapot but not enough milk. When all our party arrived, it took what seemed ages to bring out the food. When it did arrive, the presentation was unimaginative and the selection was undewhelming. 3 finger sized sandwiches, coronation chicken, egg mayonnaise and cucumber, one sliver of sausage roll, and a tiny slice of bread with salmon and cream cheese and 3 little puddings . The thing I look forward to is the scones. I couldn't believe how tiny the 2 were. They were the size of a mini pork pie and they did not taste nice or fresh. The sandwiches seemed to been made a while in advance as the bread was dry. The clotted cream must have been sitting around also as it looked a bit dried out too. The staff were pleasant but not really attentive. I had to go and ask for more tea and I helped friends by topping up their prosecco. The cream tea with just tea, cost £26 and £4 for service. I didn't say anything at the time as I did not want to make a fuss. There is nothing that would have been achieved. I just wanted to write a review to warn anyone thinking of spending time and money going to captain's club like me, all excited and full of expectation, to keep your expectations low, very low. Poor, not terrible but very very disappointing and not worth the money.

What a fabulous morning we spent at the Captain's Club. The weather was fabulous and we even rented a boat for an hour to go up and down the river, fabulous views and we even saw a seal!! Food was delicious too and Harry & Toby we brilliant. Will definitely go back.

Great view from room, lovely looking restaurant for breakfast, buzzing bar, small but nice spa, reserved parking were all fabulous ! Negatives - expensive stay & housekeeping. Our room wasn't properly serviced and consumables not replaced. Additionally they left several trolleys, linens, hoovers etc in the corridor which gave an impression of untidiness. Lastly - every time we saw any of the housekeeping team on our floor they tended to be congregated chatting to each other. Would expect higher standards when paying £400+ for a room

Spent 2 nights here with my 91 year old mother so the 2 bedroom suite was ideal as we were able to have our own bedrooms but within a self-contained space. The little kitchenette was useful but we also had all the hotel facilities we needed - so could enjoy a cooked breakfast each morning without having to do it ourselves. Mum enjoyed watching the boats and rowers etc passing by on the river. Staff were helpful and friendly and food of a good standard - so it really hit the spot!!

The staff are excellent especially reception and the location and room view were very nice. The bar and restaurant areas are very smart with a great atmosphere. The room was disappointing for the price . At this price point the toiletries in the bathroom should be better quality and upgraded. Should have espresso coffee machine with additional milk (no fridge). Room decor very plain and furniture damaged and tired. On the plus side, We had a very comfortable bed and very clean room, plenty of coat hangers and storage.
