I know you're thinking the title is a bold statement but I've now been to the Anantara Resort twice and can honestly say it (as well as others in Thailand). There is a more expensive resort next door but if you want up front and direct contact with Elephants, this is the place. The other resort borrows elephants from Anantara and doesn't offer a personal walk with them through a broad grassland along the river. The facilities are very grand and the rooms offer beautiful views of the Golden Triangle. Besides the elephants, we also highly recommend the Spice Spoons cooking class with the morning market visit as well as the local tour (ask for Khon Anon as your guide) and the scomadi motor bike rental onsite. They also have free bikes that we took around the property along the grasslands to watch the elephants ourselves from their private road (try and find that somewhere else). We're glad we reserved under the Explorer package which offers so many great experiences as well as full board dining. It's nice to try new dishes while on an all inclusive dining plan. And finally, we've witnessed great service in SE Asia but the staff here set the bar even higher with such friendly and genuine service to make us feel at home. More than likely you'll hear from Khun Tuk to set up your reservations and she is a wonderful asset to the resort - before and during your visit. Don't think twice about where to stay in this region - Book this Resort!

The Hotel was excellent from the moment they picked us up from the airport to the moment we were dropped at our next destination. The ethos surrounding the elephants is amazing, staff are knowledgeable and treat these wonderful animals with care and respect. All activities were great, we did walking with giants, Enfield sidecar, Spice spoons and spa (one activity included per day in the price) Food was amazing and plentiful, probably the best breakfast ever. All staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The massage in the spa was amazing. Beds were large and comfy I would not hesitate to return

The staff and stay was fantastic! The elephants seemed a bit bored and it felt like they needed more time spent or less…I’m not sure. For the price the stay and space was exquisite. I’m not sure what to feel about the elephants and the treatment of them.

Our stay at the Anantara Golden Triangle Resort offered many highlights and a few areas for improvement. The resort's location, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and lush greenery, set the stage for a tranquil getaway. Positives: * The guides for trekking and biking were exceptional, and spoke perfect English. They provided in-depth knowledge about the local area and making outdoor adventures both fun and educational. The “city tour" was fun, usingtuk tuk and longboats as transportation * The elephant encounters were unforgettable, thoughtfully designed to respect the animals' well-being while allowing guests to connect with them in a meaningful way. * A special mention goes to Julia, whose Thai massage was absolutely terrific. * The staff was extremely friendly nice and helpful. Negatives: * The overall food quality was average. The buffet, in particular, often felt underwhelming, with dishes that seemed to have been sitting out for too long. There is an a la carte menu- which is deceptive. 2/3rds of the menu is on the buffet, 1/3 a la carte. The second day a different 1/3 is a la carte and so on. There is no where convenient to eat off campus and so the food is an issue. * The room felt a little dated, with furnishings showing some wear and tear. The large shower/bath tub combination, while luxurious in size, was somewhat impractical and it was difficult to use the shower * The pool was gorgeous- but not heated- was too cold to use * At $2000 per night the experience frankly should be near perfect.
