Malee's Nature Lovers Bungalows

Malee @ her husband were very gracious host's! Their homey & rustic jungle hideaway was perfect for us. We also got some great tips on where to eat in Chang Dao and the breakfast was delightful especially Malee’s  homemade wheat bread with butter… Highly recommend.

I've stayed at Malee's a couple of times and enjoyed it in the past, so thought I stay sgain after a gap of 15 years or so. Its a great place to base yourself if you're into birds and nature, the main temple with its 510 steps within walking distance. There is limited parking available. Malee and Kurt are nice people, very friendly and keep the place looking nice. The house and bungalows are wooden, rustic-looking buildings, all wood inside. A bit dated in places but the bed was comfortable enough and it was very quiet at night. Malee does provide a breakfast and you can chose from six set menus but can't mix them, which I found a bit strange. I'd have liked muesli before my eggs but couldn't, so I think a more flexible approach would be better. The rooms have two water bottles provided and there's a kettle and tea/coffee, but there's no A/c or TV in the room and no laundry service or evening meal. I ate locally and visited a new laundrette in Chiang Dao. It's a pleasant place to stay, has mature gardens and is well situated but there are more modern places nearby if that is your preference.

We cannot praise Malee,s enough! A beautiful collection of bungalows set in a quiet location, each one full of character. Malee and her husband are wonderful hosts, typifying everything that is good about Thailand, welcoming, friendly, always smiling and generous. Nothing is too much trouble! The room we had was at the rear of the property and overlooked a wooded area, great for birdwatching from a raised balcony, almost purpose built! The breakfast was excellent and there are several places nearby for evening meal. If you are a birder we thoroughly recommend this place and Malee can arrange a very competent local bird guide (Suntan) should you need one.
