I stay at this hotel often when my travels take me to the Richmond area, due to its combination of convenience and cost.
However, on all of my recent stays, I have found things in my room that were broken or not working correctly, or just a bit worn out. These are things that should be noticed by the housekeeping crew, reported, and fixed before putting a customer into the room. The desk always says they don't have maintenance people at the hotel.
I have also noticed recently that when I check in, I am assigned to a lesser room than what I selected when making my reservation.

Comfortable bed, clean, nice staff. Would encourage manager to add a USB port in the room, but that was the only thing missing. Would recommend.

I have stayed at this hotel many times, but have noticed a gradual decline in the general condition of the property. On this stay, the bathroom sink water only produced a weak trickle when the knob was fully on (took half a minute to fill a small water cup. The shower head was on a hose but the wall bracket was missing. They don't have in-site maintenance, but someone jury-rigged a different fixed shower head but the water sprayed on the ceiling instead of down. The rest of my room was fine, but lobby area has a strong "evil" smell to it.

I have used this same hotel many times over the years when I am visiting and/or working the in Richmond/St. Petersburg area. However, this most recent visit was a disappointing in more than one way. First, the entire lobby area has an overpower acrid odor, like some noxious perfume was splashed all over, or perhaps the residue from some huge application of cleaning chemicals. It was hard to breath.
Second, the immediate area seemed to have a lot of vagrants walking around, loitering, etc. The large gas station across the parking lot said they were having to take more security precautions because if it.
Third, on my last night of this visit, whoever was in the room above mine was making a great commotion until around 3AM. Sounds like a combination of a loud domestic quarrel and a construction zone. My calls to the night manager seemed to have no effect. I was neatly ready to check out and find a different hotel.
I will be looking harder at alternative hotels in the area for my next trip there.
