Diabolical and totally ripped off. We stayed for two nights during August bank holiday and weren’t informed about the bands playing for two nights running. Unbeknown to us, we were staying in a room right above the stage area. Not only were we subjected to some bloke singing 80’s rock songs very badly but then we had the joy of listening to them loading their stuff in the van afterwards until 12.30 am. In fact, I ended up walking around the village for hours as it was intolerable and could hear them right up the street. There’s really no escape. We had the worst weekend in a beautiful idyllic village. Added to that, their care home curry was just that. Don’t be tempted by the beautiful location. Breakfast wasn’t included and the shower handle was broken making it difficult to do the basics and this wasn’t a cheap stay. If I could attach the video showing the noise levels, I would. Cashing in on us tourists, trying to be all things to all people and not getting anything right.

A great country pub to stay in! Really good, and great value. Lovely setting, and great views from the pub garden and terrace. Good base for walks into Derbyshire, and great beers. Rooms are all themed to different Titanic beers, which is really quirky and nicely done. I was in Steerage, and the only negative comment was the very noisy water pump that goes off intermittently once or twice and hour through the night. Once you get used to the sound it was okay, but it does shock you a bit at first. If they could sort that, it would be great. Staff were welcoming and lovely. A hidden gem.

A moody landlord or as I learnt general manager, does not speak to staff or customers when questioned. How this is acceptable given the pub industry faces the challenges the challenges it does? I get the impression that his is not an isolated instant as both staff and customers clearly unhappy. Excellent beers but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

Improve how you speak to customers Pros- good location, good size room with really comfortable bed. Good value for money. Cons- initial room was right above the loudest part of the pub so I asked if there were similar rooms available in a quieter location. The manager - Andy - so rude. Actually stunned by his treatment of me. Made what should have been a simple room swap really heated. I eventually got to change rooms and I'm so glad I did- the second room was ideal. But having Andy speak to me the way he did put me off staying again and I've told local friends my story so they're aware. Such a shame - as a paying customer I expected much better.
