It is a charming and cozy inn, friendly staff, beautiful room in a beautiful area, walking distance from Sudeley castle, hiking trails around. Will recommend it. The food is also good and service within minutes. Only slight critique is the room especially Buckland room gets very hot in the summer and it retains the heat throughout the night, maybe the Inn can invest in airconditioning since this global warming is bringing heatwave upon heatwave.

On holiday with friends and visited the Lion, as we had spotted the justifiably charming beer garden the day before. After an enjoyable 8 mile walk, we stopped for a pint of cider and decided to add a portion of chips per couple, which at £5.50 per cup of chips was exorbitant, as we had 8 approx chips per portion. Not an incentive to return. I politely gave feedback to a member of staff and hope there is redress for other customers.

We treated ourselves to a last minute stay in the super indulgent room for a night. We were welcomed really well and were given a free drink voucher when we arrived. We went for a walk and got a bit lost so moved our food booking but it was no problem for them. We ate well, we have been to other Butcombe pubs and they always do well cooked good pub food. The room was stunning, it looked like it had been recently done. Lovely bath and Bramley products, very large comfy bed. Really clean. Although it was above the pub garden it was quiet (there was a very faint hum from the kitchen I think but my partner didn't notice it, I have sensitive hearing!). Only thing I would have liked would have been a small table next to the sofa to put my cuppa on. Breakfast was lovely too. What is nice is that they do a really good job of high quality pub food and accommodation but it's also relaxed and doesn't feel too high brow - perfect for us. We have also stayed in the George and the feeling was the same. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This is a fantastic place to have dinner. My wife and I ate here twice during our visit and on both occasions we were very impressed. The menu is excellent and the service we received from Will and Brooke was first class. The first time we visited we had booked a table but on the second we didn’t have a booking but because we arrived early (at 6pm) we were given a table. This is obviously a very popular pub so if you are visiting the area I’d recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

A charming and cozy stay. Innkeepers could not have been more gracious with our questions. We were walking The Cotswolds Way and this was one of the more charming and comfortable places we stayed. It was a beautiful evening and we dined outside. We met so many fun locals which to me makes a trip. Room and bed were beautiful, cozy comfortable bed for tired walkers. Food was excellent. Breakfast was delicious, and fueled us for the next walking day!

Excellent 2 night stay at The Lion, taking in a day at Cheltenham races. Food was very good. Staff very friendly with a big 'shout out' to Karyn and the lady who served breakfast both mornings. Those liking a firm mattress then the Ullen room is for you. Definitely recommend a stay at The Lion.

What a joy to stay at The Lion Inn! Booked from Australia, it exceeded all our expectations. Our room " Oakley" was so elegant and comfortable, lovely to come back to after exploring. The food, amazing and breakfasts a treat! Staff were so friendly and helpful, and a shout out to Karen ( mother of Phoebe) who made our stay so special. Wish we were closer but highly recommended a stay at The Lion!

Everyone there did what we did and had their suitcases transported separately so they could hike Cotswold Way. Excellent vegan options for dinner and breakfast. Free drink upon arrival. Walking distance to Cotswold Way, the castle, and all downtown shops.
