Hotel Bardo Savannah

I booked this hotel through Amex fine hotels and resorts and have always had fantastic stays when booked through them. Unfortunately, that’s not been the case here at Hotel Bardo. Let it be known, I’ve NEVER written a poor review, even if the experience hasn’t been great but for this being a fine hotel and resort and it not being cheap I want to urge others to stay elsewhere when booking through Amex. When we arrived our room wasn’t ready, one of the perks of fine hotels and resorts is an early check in and room upgrade, neither of which we received. No problem, understand this isn’t guaranteed. But when I inquired about it with the woman at the front desk it was not met with a pleasant attitude. When we did receive our room keys we weren’t given any of the details of our fine hotel and resort stay like in other hotels. I had no idea what the breakfast rules were as well as the hotel credit we would be receiving. I wound up asking the front desk employee later because the same woman wasn’t helpful. For dinner we hoped to take advantage of the house car to take us to river street. I booked through the front desk for 7:10. After waiting, inquiring 2 times, and sitting outside for over 40 minutes we wound up booking an Uber. I never heard from the driver and that was it. When we got back from River Street there was a concert going on across the street (our room faces it). It was INCREDIBLY loud. I called the front desk to ask when it would be ending, since it was 10pm at this point. She informed me she wasn’t sure the ending time and would call me back. 20 minutes later she called to let me know it wouldn’t end until 11pm. Needless to say there was zero sleeping until that ended. For breakfast, which $60 is covered from Amex, I ordered 2 entrees and specifically said we didn’t want bottled water but would love 2 glasses to use at the water station. We were brought 2 $9 bottled waters, when I inquired about them I was told I ordered them and I specifically explained I asked for glasses. On top of that there was a 25% gratuity charged. I’m happy to tip, I always tip well, but to be charged 25% when the order isn’t even correct is crazy. I’m currently sitting in our room waiting for my revised check to be delivered, which at this point I doubt I’ll ever see. I’m a single mom that brought my kids to Savannah for my 40th birthday and this was truly supposed to be a special treat for all of us and instead it’s been met with incredibly poor customer service and a sub par experience. I highly recommend the Thompson in Savannah, I wish we would’ve stayed there again.
SpringHill Suites Savannah Downtown/Historic District

The hotel is located on the edge of the historic district, so it is a quick 10-15 minute walk to either River Street or even Forsyth Park. Even the standard suites are larger than most other similar properties. The beds were comfortable and the linens and towels were above average. All employees from the front desk to the breakfast servers and cleaning staff were very pleasant and friendly. Rated lower in the facility category as the outside landscaping by the sidewalks was **** filled and over grown. This really detracted from the exterior appearance. The fitness was large and has a good amount of cardio equipment but only had one, torn workout bench, no area/mats for core work and the hand weights were missing all 20lb and 25lb pairs. There should be other strength training options. The breakfast food options were presented in an attractive manner with good over all quality.

First let me state I have ZERO clue why anyone would rate this hotel as anything other than a terrible rating!! The owners of this hotel should be ASHAMED!! It’s completely run down and nothing that you should expect in a major tourist city of a boutique hotel in a historic district!! Nothing against the management or all of the staff here who are very kind and do their best to accommodate requests; but the hotel is run down, so dirty down in the mezzanine area where a main toilet is for guests; the lobby when we first walked in had litter around the rugs and the furniture was so dusty!! That was my first impression and I should have listened to instinct and canceled our stay instead of waiting for our room to be ready. I did comment on how unkempt and dirty the lobby was to the front desk and that I hoped that our room would be clean. We then left for a few hours to walk around and eat. Impression of the immediate surrounding area wasn’t any better. You’re right by the beautiful and historic Olde Pink House and Reynolds Square and the streets are filthy, covered in cigarette butts and litter, and the park immediately across the street is filled with people from the homeless shelter right down the block. They were all very respectful, however this was unexpected. Upon return the lobby had been cleaned at least and we were shown to our room. Our luggage had been stored and when brought back, there was a large yellow stain on my suitcase. The walls in the mezzanine are yellow so I have zero clue if storage does and if so, how this stain appeared that looks like the paint. We stayed in one of the two balcony rooms that overlook the park. The room next to us had the door wide open and fans running to air out what I can only assume was the extreme mustiness that greeted us in our completely run down room, with old disgusting carpet I would never walk on in bare feet; the most uncomfortable squeaky bed with a huge dip in the middle, pillows that felt like they were stuffed with peas, and bedding that while clean, was pilled and also ancient in appearance. It only gets worse from there with the poorly lit bathroom that you can’t see to do your makeup; a toilet that when you flush it you could get sucked down into it and if you don’t close it before you flush, you’ll get all sprayed with whatever you just put into it; ancient paint that looks like it has veins growing under it and is bubbled and marred; the most uncomfortable towels that aren’t soft; a floor I again didn’t want to walk on in bare feet; and a shower/tub combo that fills with water as you shower and again looks dirty, but is just so old there’s no way to scrub the dinginess out of it. The ‘balcony’ is shared and had two small iron tables with chairs and was covered in old bird poop. Again, you overlook the square instead of the loud parking garage on this side, but the view of the square isn’t as expected, plus the patio door sticks; doesn’t seem secure when locked; and the windows ar
Fairfield Inn & Suites Savannah Midtown

The service at the front desk was excellent: friendly, polite and helpful. The rooms were better than expected. Quiet. Comfortable beds. Clean. The parking lot was on multiple levels attached to the hotel. So if you are living on the 5th floor then you could park on the 5th floor and use your room key to enter the hotel on the 5th floor. The location was ok, but not really close to any of the main attractions of Savannah. You will need to drive around 15-20 minutes to go to the main areas.

Just came back from 5 nights stay. Loved loved it! Shout out to Aby and Theresa at the front desk. So professional, helpful and fun! Loved seeing their Chic fun eye glasses every day! Aby upgraded us to High floor River front, what a great view, watched the vessels, ferries and Savanna Queen pass by every day! Mark the concierge very nice and helpful, booked hop/off bus tour w him. Location is the best! Walk to shops, restaurants, river, historical sites in just minutes. Right next to The Pink house ( great food btw). Other hotels claim they are in best location, but we found they were closer to highway overpasses and we were so glad we picked the HI express !! Used the Roof top Pool and jacuzzi every day! Hotel Bar hours not open during our stay. Bkfst standard continental, but convenient to start the day and save our $ for lunches or dinners! Beds comfortable. Great WiFi and hot water! Rooms spacious. Has a room safe. Highly recommend and Will def return on our next trip!
Hamilton Turner Inn

From the moment you arrive you are greeted with exceptional hospitality. The Inn is absolutely stunning. Pictures do not do justice on how well taken care of this historic home is under the management of Hamilton-Turner Inn. When you arrive be sure to sign the guest book and under the table is maps of the city along with a trolley map. They come in handy. The Inn offers many great amenities including bikes to explore the area with. Daily in the parlor there is complimentary fruit infused water along with fresh fruit and cookies. Early evening they have happy hour which consists of wine and hors d’oeuvres. My husband brought it up to our room for us to enjoy while I was getting ready for dinner. If you are back to the Inn before 10 pm after going out to dinner, they offer port wine and fresh cookies from 8 to 10 in the parlor. We were able to enjoy them one night during our stay as we got back in time. We stayed in the carriage house, room 503. It was on the stop floor. There are no elevators of course but that was ok with us. If you cannot climb stairs, I suggest staying on the first floor. The carriage house is directly behind the main house, just a few steps away. It was very quiet. I am a light sleeper so I knew regardless if we stayed in the carriage house or main, I would want a top floor. In the main house there are 4 levels. The old servant quarters are rooms in the basement and then there are 3 levels above. If you like to sleep in and do not want to hear noise I probably wouldn’t stay on the main level as that is where the parlor is, the dinning room ,and reception desk. The carriage house was completely renovated not too long ago. Our room was beautiful and had everything we needed. The bed had a memory foam mattress and was comfortable. We have a sleep number at home and like many no bed is as comfortable as your own, but I slept great at the Inn. Breakfast is served every morning in the dining room. It is southern style and absolutely delicious. We honestly could not have asked for a better stay. It was a short weekend trip this time but we will definitely come back and stay at the Inn. We absolutely loved our stay.
