I recently stayed at The Doyle Hotel in Charlottesville for a whirlwind one-day shoot directing a film, and I have to say, the experience was fantastic. The hotel itself is absolutely brilliant—modern, clean, and perfectly located for our tight schedule. The vibe was professional yet welcoming, which made it an ideal spot for a quick stay during a hectic production day. One small hiccup was the keyless entry system. I’ll admit, I was completely stumped at first—technology and I don’t always get along! Thankfully, Mukaii, a staff member, came to the rescue. He patiently walked me through the whole process, explaining how to access my room with such clarity and enthusiasm that I felt like a pro by the end. Mukaii’s service was top-notch; he didn’t just stop at explaining the system—he also helped carry my gear to the room and made sure I was settled in, which was a lifesaver given our crazy shooting schedule. The room itself was spotless, comfortable, and had everything I needed to recharge for the day. I can’t recommend The Doyle enough for anyone passing through Charlottesville, especially for work. Big thanks to Mukaii for making the stay seamless and stress-free—his excellent service really stood out! I’d definitely stay here again next time we’re shooting in the area.

I had a wonderful stay at the Doyle Hotel! The ambiance was charming, the rooms were cozy and impeccably clean, and the overall experience was fantastic. A special shoutout to Mukaii, who went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. He was incredibly helpful, always ready with a smile and quick to assist with any request, from local recommendations to ensuring everything in my room was perfect. His attentiveness truly elevated the experience. I’d highly recommend the Doyle Hotel to anyone looking for a delightful stay with exceptional service!

If you want to stay at hotel where this almost no personal service and everything is done by the App, then this is the place for you. If you have something wrong, you need to call a phone number that is for the hotel chain not the hotel you are staying in. Rooms were quite nice. The Roku TV was hard to use and you couldn't find the local channels so you can find out local weather and traffic.

Avoid this Hotel at all cost...terrible staff and very RUDE My flight was cancelled and I was stuck at airport overnight. When I asked if they could credit me for the stay they refused. They not only refused but it took 5 phone calls to even get an answer.

I’ve stayed in hotels across the world—hostels in Bangkok, 5-stars in Manhattan—but never have I seen such an appalling display of indifference and dysfunction as I did at The Doyle in Charlottesville. Let’s start with check-in, or rather, the absence of it. I arrived to find that despite having a reservation, the front desk couldn’t locate it. Their solution? Pay in full again—with the assurance my room would be ready shortly. I obliged, but hours passed. No keys. No apologies. Just a lobby chair and a shrug. After three hours of waiting post-payment, they told me the room “might” be ready in another three hours. Six hours of limbo after double-paying for a room. That’s not hospitality—it’s hostage-taking. Unfortunately, my experience isn’t isolated. A scan of other reviews shows a pattern: understaffed front desk, no one answering calls or emails, and guests turned away because reservations weren’t properly recorded. When you do manage to check in? Many report rooms that are dirty, with leftover trash, unclean linens, and broken fixtures—assuming the room is even cleaned at all. This isn’t a case of one bad day. It’s a systemic issue—poor management, negligent staffing, and no respect for the customer’s time or money. The Doyle isn’t a hotel—it’s a case study in what happens when you slap trendy branding on top of chaos. Bottom line: Sleep in your car before you book here. At least you’ll know what you’re getting.

The Quirk was one of my favorite hotels of all time. I've been to both their Richmond and Charlottesville locations, and had great experiences. However, ever since this hotel was purchased and became the Doyle, the transformation has been nothing short of shocking. The adorable gift shop, removed. The front desk (!!!), removed. The entire hotel staff, removed. The cute art installations in the lobby, removed. The puppy packages for pets, removed. AND after taking everything that gave this hotel a unique personality and made it a pleasurable stay they jacked up the prices! It costs way more to stay at the Doyle than it ever did to stay at the Quirk, but yet there is less service. The Doyle is fully contactless, so you have to check in on your phone, there's no front desk, which for a hotel that costs several hundred dollars a night feels absurd. Then you get in the elevators and you just have to say a little prayer that they work. There are keypads everywhere---in the elevators, on the doors, and they only work about 50% of the time. Overall, after trying the Doyle about three times since it became the Doyle, I can say that this will be my last time. It's so sad to see a Charlottesville institution ruined like this.

We did not stay the night. We arrived at the hotel at 3:30 for a 4pm check-in as the text from the hotel suggested. We parked in a Valet spot. No Valet was available. When we entered the lobby, there was an employee on an iPad at a side table. He asked if we had received our access code. We had. He showed us that to find our room we needed to leave the hotel and access our room via an exterior staircase. Our code worked and upon entering a small landing area, we stepped over a vacuum cleaner and some cleaning supplies to get to our room. The room was ready. The welcome basket arranged for by our hosts had not been delivered. My sister called to inquire about them and someone brought one to us. I left our room to get a cup of coffee from the lobby bar. I tried to enter the lobby through the doors we had used to when checking in from the lobby and they were locked so I walked around to the front of the hotel. Once at the bar, I asked the young man working if I could order a cup of coffee and was told that there was no coffee at the hotel. Which really surprised me. I left and walked to the kitchen to see if I could order one and a young man offered to go find me a to-go cup and make me one. He gets a gold star. After the wedding we came back to the hotel. There were bugs in the toilet and sink of our room and we decided to drive home instead of staying the night. As a frequent traveler, I have not been so put off by a hotel in sometime.

Great location. Good price. Nice room. All good things. But the lack of obvious or available onsite services severely detracts from the experience. When I say no services, this is what I mean: - there’s no front desk or obvious hotel staff. If you have a question or issue, you have to hang around hoping that someone on the staff comes by the lobby. Over our 3 night stay, we periodically saw a valet (who seemed directly affiliated with the parking service and not with the hotel based on his uniform), someone cleaning the lobby, maybe a manager standing at a counter with a laptop. Could have been a guest. No way to know without asking. - as an alternative to obvious onsite staff, you can use the chat feature from the website. It didn’t work on my iPhone. If your service model is so “low touch”, you have to have a reliable way to communicate. - you can also send a text message, which I did end up using because the elevators were functionally unreliable. No idea if that chat solved the problem because we checked out and got lucky on our last elevator ride - here was the 2(?) problems with the elevators. There are 2 elevators. Left and right. You’re supposed to enter your secret 4 digit code to get to your room. The “left” elevator wouldn’t let us successfully press the button (4 in our case) regardless of what we tried. 4-digit code by itself, or followed by the *, or followed by the other symbol, or no code at all. Sometimes we’d get lucky and something would work. Maybe someone had turned it off and then on again. No idea. So we’d be stuck in the lobby. - You’re probably thinking, just use the “right” elevator. Do you know what happens when you press the “up” button to call the elevator? The “left” elevator door opens because it’s happily waiting in the lobby. - when we could eventually get in the “right” elevator, it didn’t require a code at all. Just press 4 to get on the 4th floor. So much for secure access. -I would have explained this to the front desk if they had one. So I sent a text. No idea if it’s resolved. - the other reviews are also accurate. Servicing the room is by request, and there’s a fee. It was fine for us on a short stay. TV is really a Roku TV, which was fine for us but we have one at home. Not as simple is just picking Channel 29. Rooms could use more lights. - the beautiful rooftop is restricted to when the restaurant is open. It’s a shame we couldn’t sit out there on a sunny afternoon. - I suppose if you needed more towels, or toilet paper, or whatever, you could send a text. Remember, chat didn’t work - I can’t imagine what you do if you’re locked out your room. And, worse, if you don’t have your phone with you. I guess the hotel was previously named Quirk, and was more expensive. Seems like they kept that quirky attitude, reduced the costs and reduced the services. We might stay there again - the location IS fantastic and the room was very nice - but we’ll be chec
