Hyatt Centric Charlotte/Southpark

Clean and comfortable, would book it again.

I stayed (or rather, tried to stay) at Hyatt Centric for a weekend trip, and it turned into a total disaster before it even started. Before arriving, I called ahead to confirm I could pay using my debit card. I was told that wouldn’t be an issue. At check-in, I again informed the front desk staff and they said no problem. Then things went sideways. They swiped my card twice, then claimed it was declined due to a “missing unique code” and insufficient funds. But when I checked my banking app, I saw the charge had gone through and even showed them proof. He still insisted it didn’t process and asked me to pay again. At this point, I assumed maybe my bank had flagged the charge since I was out of state. Nope. I called my bank immediately and they confirmed: no holds, no flags, no declines on their end. My card was good to go. Despite this, we were denied a room and left scrambling to find another hotel late at night—after already being charged. The front desk showed me a screen saying “Failed: Unique ID is Missing,” and insufficient funds but again, the charge clearly hit my account. Not only was this whole thing stressful, it was completely avoidable. We did everything right—called ahead, used a working card, provided proof—and still got left out in the cold. Absolutely unacceptable for a brand like Hyatt. I’m still dealing with the charge and dispute process. Be cautious if you’re booking here. If this is how they handle check-ins, I can’t imagine how they’d handle a real emergency.
