Great location, next to King St and lots of restaurants etc. everything is walkable. Love their patio coffee and nightly happy hour (wine and snacks). Friendly service, clean room. No maid service but that’s fine. A little loud on Saturday night but didn’t bother me. Would definitely stay here again.

The location is perfect. You can walk to many great shops, restaurants and bars. There is a parking garage across the street ($20/day), a major perk. Courtyard is nice to get away from the street to a quiet spot. Coffee in the morning is convenient and not terrible. We stayed on first floor in back of the courtyard. It was quiet. Would guess rooms on street side are noisier, especially in the morning. Room was basic, no charm, dark and a little run down. Stocked with bare minimum. One tiny bar of soap, 2 bath and two hand towels, teeny shampoo/conditioner bottles. No soap dish, so we put it on a little piece of cardboard. No room on vanity for toiletries. Rooms do not get made up, so if you need a fresh towel, or anything else, you have to ask. If your garbage pail is overflowing, apparently they expect you to empty it somewhere. If you ask at the desk for your room to be serviced, they act like you’ve lost your mind, and haughtily announce that “we are an INN”, and certainly don’t do that. I’ve stayed at many inns, and all freshen up the room each day. I do appreciate the fact that they are located in a popular city, but they could do much better.

The Elliott House Inn was only acceptable and definitely not what I had hoped. It is old and historic and I understand that but the rooms were barely acceptable. They were cool which is a check in the plus column but there was dust everywhere (ceiling fans, picture frames, etc.) mold on shower grout. I would never stay again and I certainly think they can do better because they have some new, updated items in the rooms but it is like they go through the rooms and just patch something here or there so maybe they should update a whole room. Another plus is that it is fairly quiet and definitely after 11 pm which is an ordiance in the city. I could rate lower but I am trying to be fair due to the historical value. People seem to like the 5-6 wine and cheese hour as well.

The only good thing about this Inn is the location and our room was spacious. When we first arrived, all was good. Got to our room and the bathroom smelled like mold. We tried working the room safe and it was not working. My husband went downstairs to let them know and they said that someone would be up to fix it. Never happened. We were staying there 4 nights and on the 2nd night I noticed no one had come up to clean the room and take out garbage. I went to reception and when I asked when someone was coming to clean the room, they looked at me like I was crazy. the person told me that this place was an Inn and that they did not have maid service, but since I was staying for an extended period. He told me to call down in the morning and someone would come up to clean and change the towels. No breakfast, no maid service and no parking (unless you pay across the street.) Take my advice if you are looking for these things do not stay at this place.

The location is perfect! We were able to walk everywhere! Next to great restaurants. Next to museums and historic sites, shopping, parks, everything! Room was very clean. Courtyard was relaxing and nice to take a break there. They provided coffee and tea in the morning and the cheese and wine in the evening was a nice touch! Loved it! Paid parking across the street was convenient.

Date of Stay: 08/04/2024 I recently stayed at the Elliott House Inn during my visit to Charleston—a beautiful city I thoroughly enjoyed and plan to revisit. However, I will not be returning to the Elliott House Inn. After checking out, I realized I had left personal property in the closet of my room. I immediately contacted the front desk and spoke with Jeremy, who said he would check the lost and found and the room itself. He returned quickly, claiming my item wasn’t there. I was suspicious, as he returned to the call much quicker than he should have if he had actually gone to the room and checked as he said he did. When I pressed further, Jeremy mentioned that the cleaning staff, who are employees of the Inn, had already cleaned the room. I explained how they would have had to found my bag if that was the case. He literally said nothing in response, He offered no apology or assistance beyond this. I asked for the matter to be escalated and was told the manager would be in tomorrow, and I wouldn’t receive a call because it was Sunday. I immediately filed a police report. His response was the exact opposite of what one would expect from the attendant of a B&B in historic downtown Charleston. The next day, I received a call from the GM, Ashley, who promised an internal investigation. Despite following up a week later, I received no updates and was met with the same indifferent attitude from both Ashley and Jeremy. The lack of care, responsiveness, and basic customer service was deeply disappointing. I only write reviews for exceptional or terrible experiences—this was the latter. The Elliott House Inn should be ashamed of how they handled this situation. Their indifference is a stark contrast to what one would expect from a historic B&B in Charleston. If you value customer service, I recommend spending your money elsewhere.

We opened the door to the overwhelming odor of cheap cleaning products unsuccessfully attempting to mask the smell of “unclean”. Windows, doors, walls were visibly dirty. The grime on the bathroom baseboards was 1/2” thick. Like it had never been cleaned. Deadbolt did not work on both the front & patio door. The other lock & door were so old & flimsy, they could easily be pushed in. Which is probably what happened at the front office. Their front door has clearly been busted in. Splintered wood still hanging. We canceled our reservation and left. Still waiting to hear back from the GM for a refund.

We went to Charleston for a quick weekend get away. We wanted to stay in the French Quarter. It was very difficult to find a place under $300/$400 per night in the heart of the French Quarter. The Elliott house was a great value at $250 per night. You have 3 great restaurants: Poogan’s Porch (named after their dog so I’m in), Husk, and 82 Queen. You are also located right across the street from a parking garage which made it easy to park ($20 per night). The other places you either had to park 3 blocks away or valet. You are a 5 minute walk to take a carriage ride with Old South Carriage (highly recommend to learn the rich history of Charleston in an hour) the flea market (housed in the old slave trading buildings), and restaurants on the water. You are located right on King Street which is the mecca for quaint stores, small charming bars, restaurants, Sewing Down South (from the show Southern charm). Only recommendation I had to the Elliott house was they need to update their website because it shows a wading pool and breakfast. The wading pool has been removed and there is no breakfast, just coffee. They did bring out wine and cheese at 5 pm which was lovely. There is cold water, ice tee, and lemonade all day which is very nice because it is very hot and humid in the summertime. I would definitely stay there again.

On the whole, hotels in historic downtown Charleston are awfully expensive. We found the Elliott Inn to be anywhere from $50 to $200 cheaper. Prime location in the historic districts sits the Elliott Inn. You are one block away from Kings Street; one block away from the famous St. Phillips Church and just a few blocks away from busy East Bay Street. We usually have stayed at the Embassy Suites which is definitely a walk into town. A few nights at the Elliot were welcomed. There was no issue about parking as a public parking garage is right across the narrow Queen’s Street. On the day of our arrival, the garage was full. No problem as there is another garage just down the street. In fact, we saved ourselves $2 by parking down the street. Prices for these garages are $20 and $18 for 24 hours—not bad. The room was clean, the bathroom doable and the AC was cold set at 72F. Room cleaning is done by request. The only warning is to recognize that the ends of the bed are pointed. We call these types of bed frames “shin-knee-killers.” The Inn does put out a fresh pot of coffee by 7:00AM. With that said, there was no coffee for us decaffeinated people. A wine and cheese offering is at 5:00PM. The Pinot Grigio bottle is first to go. We were able to meet some fine guests on the patio. The further in on the patio there were NO See Um insects. We noticed one couple having some Deet to ward-off those critters. There is an elevator to the second and third floor rooms. On the second floor there was a notice for only one person at a time on the elevator. There was no sign of that nature on the first floor. There are also stairs that go up which are doable. We found it quirky that room keys are actual keys with a long-wide faub. Key cards have yet to come to the Elliot House Inn. We are always leery of having that key leave our pockets. The office closes at night. It saves expense on having someone stay the night. There are reasons why the Elliot is cheaper. We just left our keys in the room as we left early in the morning. We called later to notify the office clerk. We highly recommend Magnolias for lunch. We think they have the best Pecan Pie ever. We also like the food at Slightly North of Broad Restaurant. Seeing the Pineapple Fountain is always a treat and if you wait, take a swing on along the waterfront boardwalk. One of my highlights was taking the ferry out to Ft. Sumter. The last ferry allows one to see the large flag being taken down. If you found any value to this blog, please let me know by clicking the “thumbs up” picture.
