Charleston Marriott

I stayed at the hotel for three days to attend a conference. My first impression was that the room was spacious enough for a solo stay, equipped with a coffee pot, though the refrigerator was empty. However, complimentary drinking water was available at the front desk, and a microwave was also accessible. The bathroom fan made a friction noise when operating, so I chose not to use it. Additionally, it was a self-circulating system rather than being connected to an exhaust line, which I found somewhat unexpected.

This hotel has a great location, just 10 min away from the noise and excitement of touristy downtown. 9 dollar UberX ride for two to the International African American museum which is located near the Aquarium and Harbor sight seeing cruises. The service was great. There is a roof top bar on the 3rd floor. Too hot up there on summer days but ok at night. Um it's SC in the summer so all outside is muggy. It's probably great in the fall/ winter. The restaurant food was good. Are there cheaper hotel, of course there are but I'm a Marriott guy and like to spoil my wife with full service Marriott comforts...

Stayed 3 night with 2 adults 2 kids. Check in was very flat, no greeting and appreciation of the loyalty, no introduction. Nothing. Needed to ask for everything we wanted to know. Rooms are outdated and fairly small. Currently new windows are put in. Pool was very dirty. Water was so milky so couldn't even see your own hands in the water. Dirt was all over the ground. Service and friendliness for breakfast in the restaurant and in the (temp) lounge was zero. Staff seemed to be annoyed all the time.

What a terrible hotel. Absent management means the staff are not motivated to provide any sort of customer service. So many examples, but here are a few. The parking valets who are more interested in talking to each other than serving guests, the coffee booth server who serves guests while listening to music through her ear buds and the restaurant manager who berates guests when asked about the wait time because 'we had a staff member go off sick'. Additionally, the hotel is 'tired' with old bathroom fittings which are more than showing their age and chairs in the bar area with threadbare arms. During a rain storm the roof leaked letting rain into a lobby area. This was the only time management were present, 3 of them?, where had they been for the 4 days we spent at the hotel? On top of this they charge guests to park their cars overnight on a well worn car park that floods when it rains. I guess this is why they don't send a follow up guest review request. My advice, stay elsewhere.

This hotel is in need of a serious updating of the rooms and facilities. The furniture in the rooms is probably from the early 2000’s. The carpet in the room was stained, faded, and coming up off the floor. There are no USB outlets or current technology in the room. The bathroom is small, and the tiles in the shower were old, dirty and stained. The lobby is nice and the hotel has great outdoor areas. There is a “rooftop” bar that has great potential, but the uncaring, untrained bartender was a problem. There is location is good- about a 10 minute Uber to downtown Charleston, but still in the city. Until this hotel does a major upgrade to the rooms, I would not stay here again.
