Arrived at the hotel at 3:00 p.m., the front desk said it would be 4:00 to check in, so I waited in the lobby for an hour, and then the front desk said that I would have to wait for another half an hour, the work efficiency of the hotel staff was extremely low. Will not choose here again next time.

Good hotel. It's clean and has friendly staff. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning is quiet! Yay!! Way better than another marriot in the area. The rooms are spacious but they seemed to under estimate the bathroom sizes. The toilets and door ways are centimeters from hitting one another when you open the door. The showers have good water pressure and are hot. The shower curtains on the inside of the showers are weird at first because they don't sit inside the tub. They are cut off right at the lip of the top of the tub so it looks like water is going to go all over the floor but it didn't. I think they do this to keep people from falling in the tub and/or easier cleaning or the tub. I will stay here again. The fridge in the room kept my protein shakes cold. Restaurant on site which you can eat at for a cost. Parking was fine. You don't have to vallet if you don't want. They have plenty of parking around. I would park near the conference center in the back so I could just walk through the hotel to get to my car instead of outside. The valet people were never around early in the morning or evenings when I had to be at MUSC, so you'd likely have to wait to get your car from them if it's not a prime time during the day.

As a Lifetime Platinum Elite member my loyalty to Marriott has primarily revolved around their attention to detail and superior service that I have received but unfortunately that has not been the case with the Marriott Charleston, SC 170 Lockwood Boulevard Charleston, SC. We called the hotel and changed our reservations to arrive a day early for our 5 day stay and we were sent an email that contained the same confirmation number and we were told everything was set. Upon arriving at the hotel we were checked in and provided a room, unfortunately we discovered that the WiFi wasn’t working and after several inquiries the hotel staff was unable to provide any specifics on when the WiFi would be available. On day two of our stay we stopped by the front desk to inquire about the status of the WiFi that it was still down for an undetermined amount of time and additional we were told we only had a one night reservation, confusion then immediately set in. The lack of continuity was unsettling but we were able to prove via the email that we had the additional days and that issue was resolved but still no WiFi. Later on the evening of day two of our stay I called the front desk to ask about the status of the WiFi but I was told the issue had to be addressed with the General Manager, I then reached out to the Marriott Platinum number who contacted the hotel and was told that the WiFi issue was due to the weather which is strange given there were no weather issues until today. Often in customer service you have to provide information that the customer may not want to hear but honesty with the customer should be paramount which makes it difficult to remain loyal to a brand that isn’t an honest player and rather than provide honest information gives you BS just to get rid of you. There are a number of excellent hotels in the Charleston area that I’m confident value their customers and my recommendation is don’t stay at Marriott Charleston, SC 170 Lockwood Boulevard Charleston, SC.

My wife and I visited MUSC and stayed at the Charleston Marriott. We found the staff very helpful from valet, to front desk and in the restaurant the night before our appointment. The room was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. We had access to the Concierge Lounge up in the Penthouse. Really beautiful to have our coffee and breakfast from the top floor on the outside patio. Access to the hospital was very easy, only 5 minutes away. Thank you all for the hospitality!

Stayed in Charleston returning North, this time with a family member instead of traveling solo (see separate review for Holiday Inn in Hurricane, WV for southbound trip). This is an old school Marriott with that old school charm, and we enjoyed it. Attached parking garage for 15$/night, better than any other city hotel parking I know of. Rooms may be somewhat dated but have everything you need, and are clean. We had a double with a pseudo-balcony that allowed the door to be cracked open a few inches for fresh air, a very welcome touch that induces me to return when properties offer this. We arrived late but the bar/restaurant was still open, this was another welcome blast from the past as the food was of old time Marriott quality and delicious. After that it was sleep, up early, shower and on the way, so we didn't get a chance to try the breakfast, although had a cup of the complimentary coffee for the road. All in all, relaxing and pleasant, well done Marriott.

This is an old hotel with a remodeled lobby and gross rooms. If you plan on sleeping, the noise from the antiquated bathroom fan and in-room refrigerator will make sure that doesn't happen. The rooms have a distinct and foul odor. The bathrooms are more motel than full service Marriott. The beds are uncomfortable and unclean. Along with another review, the TV did not work. To top it off, our unsolicited wakeup call came in the form of sounds coming from inside the wall (perhaps the pitter-patter of the local rodent population?). The breakfast buffet was limited, flavorless and expensive.

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the various reviews on this hotel. We attended a birthday party for a relative. The party was in one of their private rooms with a bartender. The plated food (chicken or salmon) was excellent.) The hotel rooms were clean and in good condition. And, the beds were extremely comfortable. I was really impressed with the handicapped accessible room that we needed for my husband. It was large with a really huge bathroom. The staff was the reason that I gave this hotel a four-star review. They were friendly and readily accessible when we needed information or support. A special thank you to one of the bell captains who brought a wheeled cart to take over forty gift bags down to the party room. Again, good service. Coming from a metropolitan area, I am comfortable giving tips for service. We also enjoyed the hotel restaurant. The menu was large enough with a great breakfast buffet. The food was very tasty and varied. There was made to order omelets included with the brunch. It was the first time that I saw smoked salmon and grits on a breakfast buffet, but it made me happy. We ate a number of lunches at the same restaurant. Their Nicoise salad was excellent, very well priced, with a piece of cooked-to-order tuna. It was beautifully plated and delicious. The drinks from the bar were not over-priced. The cocktails were excellent. We didn't have cars and quickly could have Ubers drive us to different sites. I'd return if in the area.

At a banquet here, the chicken breast was overdone and tough, mashed potatoes tasteless and the broccolini portion was two tiny sprigs. A hostess offered to have the kitchen send out a replacement, but after a long delay what appeared was two pieces of cold broccoli. One dot added for personal service from Front Desk Manager Jeannie, who made our stay much more pleasant. Tip - Great breakfasts and ambrosial coffee at Saveurs du Monde, out the back door and across the bridge. They make the only authentic galettes I've had outside of Bretagne - crispy buckwheat savory crepes (GF). Try one.
